Wi-Fi Gun Detection System Being Developed to ‘Out’ Concealed Gun Carriers

What could go wrong with a new toy for the gubment?

A group of AI researchers at the Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI) has developed an AI system that can identify concealed handguns using Wi-Fi signals, offering a non-intrusive alternative to visible cameras and cumbersome metal detectors,” computer technology site Tom’s Hardware reported Sunday. “To ensure the system could specifically distinguish a handgun from everyday items of similar shape or material, the researchers trained it on recordings of a plastic handgun, a metal water bottle, a real metal handgun, and a phone,” the report elaborates.
Prior experiments showed “ordinary Wi-Fi routers identify people with 99.5% accuracy,” and these latest controlled trials show “an average handgun-detection precision of 72.5%.” Where the system falters is “pinpointing the weapon’s exact location on the carrier, precision dropped to 53.8%. The neural network also struggles to perform accurately in unfamiliar, untested indoor layouts.”
“Planned improvements” are in the works, of course, and it’s a sure bet that government and private prohibitionist interests will be incentivized to see the system develop to where it can be as widely deployed and ubiquitous as Ring and Flock cameras.
Other systems utilizing different technologies are already out there, including ventures like the Omnilert AI gun detection system, which basically appears to recognize openly carried guns. There’s also ZeroEyes, which “detect[s] potential threats, from visible firearms and knives, to intruders,” and competitors like Brivo, “to identify brandished guns in a person’s hand…”

Why would anyone want to be less safe by outing people that concealed carry?

Good. I want everyone around me knowing that im not to be fricked with

I think it’s fairly obvious, at least to me, that the “progressives” want everyone to be less safe. In fact chaos is their lead MO

I would assume that would be an unreasonable search.

Welp, the gangers in the malls aren't going to be very happy

I may have to keep an eye on something like this.

I guess we just need to get rid of our routers. The right to own a gun can not be infringed.

Not sure they found the real gun there.

I think you're being primed by thinking about this only in terms of legal concealed carry.
I think they're trying to develop this technology as an alternative to things like metal detectors for criminals
I think it's a much more productive discussion to frame it in terms of the criminals who are carrying handguns concealed and illegally

Didn’t NOPD use some scanner system at Mardi Gras a few years back?
I recall questions on constitutionality etc…
I don’t recall the results of that but vaguely feel like they kept the illegal guns but dropped the cases in a controversial move by the DAs office acting pretty out of pocket

Will it be able to identify pants hanging halfway down the person’s arse too?

WiFi signals are extremely dangerous. I’m hoping RFK Jr. is looking in to it and will hold the router manufacturers responsible.

How is it with a Faraday pouch?

To catch all the hood rats, right?
Right?
Right?

It's not "less safe".. They want you defenseless. Unable to resist.
They want to be safe when they unleash their real crazy, not just the trans, illegal immigration, sex with children BS. The real crazy.

Do a lot of Muslims carry handguns in Sweden or something?
