Because if you have been paying attention to Iran, all the top of the line Chinese kit that Iran had didn’t work worth a frick. Misses, air defenses, you name it we went through it like a hot knife through butter, The Taiwanese are armed with US made kit that is far superior to Chinas stuff.

Thank you

Even if China succeeded by taking Taiwan, they would be effectively isolated from the rest of the crude oil trade. They are already having problems buying crude oil in the open market with dollars. They cannot afford to be cut off completely, because they do not have enough crude storage and enough crude production and access to Russian crew to exist as a country.

I agree in principal. But look at Russia. 3 invasions against neighboring countries and Europe is still buying Russian energy.

International law and policing are dead.

As of today, do not rely on them as a deterrent. The US is the only deterrent. Our relationship with our partners would be the only leverage against China. That is why Venezuela and Iran are critical (because our partners have zero influence over them).

The belief was that Russia would take down Ukraine.

Wars are hard to win decisively...

And Ukraine was mainly flat farmland. Any amphibious invasion is problematic even before you look at a lack of landing spots, an inability to shell the island heavily because they want it intact, etc.

They would take Taiwan easily like we did to Venezuela.

Taiwan is an island country that has been preparing for a full scale invasion since a little after WW2. Venezuela has spent most of the last 25 years starving its people.

Amphibious invasions against dug in, fortified positions tend to be extremely costly for the invader. They’re not impossible, but they’re very risky and expensive.

We’ll likely see an example of it in a couple of weeks in the strait of Hormuz.

Although China has the military might to win in the end, Taiwan has a good military and could make it a costly campaign for the mainland.
An independent Taiwan has always been seen as an important factor in America’s national security, and China does not want a military conflict with the U.S.

It’s called the Taiwan Strait. Same way the UK kept the Germans from invading in WWII.

That’s because Europe desperately needs Russian oil. In the Chinese example THEY would be the ones needing the oil. The only countries desperate to sell oil to China couldn’t deliver it without going through sea lanes that America would control.

They didn’t have the military to do it. China’s military is a paper tiger. Not only is their equipment trash, they also have no operational experience.

Well said. Also, Taiwan is not a tiny island. If turned sideways, it would cover south Louisiana from Nola to the Chuck. Much more densely populated, too. What I don’t know is just how nationalistic the population is. Are they fanatically anti-Chicom? I sure hope so.

According to reports China is already blockading Taiwan. Taiwan can hold on and defend itself ferociously -- but for how long?

As China completely stood down completely during Operation Fury, the US in exchange has given tacit permission for China to have its way without real military interference.

It's just two Empires exchanging courtesy quid pro quo's in a future that will soon resemble Orwell's 1984 map.

The biggest problem is they want it intact.

China doesn't have the naval assets necessary for a real invasion. Particularly amphibious landing craft. They could hurt Taiwan with long range airpower, but not defeat them with it. Over the water invasion requires over the water lines of communication. Hitler failed to understand this and its why Germany lost the Battle of Britain and Operation Sea Lion was canceled before the Germans could land a single man.

I live in Taipei.

They can easily take us out with cross straight missiles and naval warfare if you are talking about targeting infrastructure, military sites and assets.

Ground warfare would be problematic but China has set up several fake cities for military training and they will heavily rely on drones.

Our goal is to make it a pain in their arse to take the island. Since the terrain consists of multiple environments, urban, rocky coastal, jungle, forested mountains. Our summers and falls mimic Louisiana with sweltering heat and humidity and hurricanes.

Thanks for weighing in with your overview. Please keep us informed.

I've heard reports of a "blockade" of Taiwan -- is it true to your knowledge?

Also:

As of late, is China engaging in heavier than usual propaganda and overt threats to Taiwan? More aggressive naval, air and drone incursions?

Is there a higher alert and general consensus by Taiwanse to hold strong? I'd imagine if invaded it'd be a hornest's nest nightmare for the invaders.
