Is there a reason why Secretary Hegseth wouldn’t go ahead and release the name? Can the family really prevent the name from being withheld?

Outside of 9/11 there aren’t many recent ones in the US.
Being 38 the big is air disasters I remember would be TWA Clinton missile, 9/11, that 09 crash
The early 90s look to have some but don’t remember those. Air travel was dangerous as frick in the 80s

Yup, that's been my theory.
So, who’s making THAT call?

Could be Trump and Pete, but more likely some Biden hold overs running interference.

So nobody will take out revenge on her family.
Same rationale police departments tried to use to conceal the names of officers in shootings. It didn’t fly, nor does this - no pun intended.

This was a human error events
If it is just human error then there is no reason to conceal the pilot's name. Pilot error has caused crashes all over the world and the pilot's names are not withheld.
Concealing her name is only going to fuel more conspiracy theories.

It’ll leak pretty quickly. Other wives/family members in the squadron know who it is, and it will get out. Not in a negative, gossipy way … it’s just human nature to talk.
It’s government employees acting in official capacity
It’s public record that can’t be kept back.
They just aren’t speaking it from the podium or in a press release. I guess a courtesy but not a real one.

Right? Who's in charge over there anyway?

Yea if it’s truly just an error which it could be then release the name and say it.

With the number of flights that take off every day, I would say the number is low, but this one could have been avoided, and that's the hard part.
It happens every single day on the highways, at an alarming rate though..
In 2022, 42,514 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the United States.
But loss is loss, especially when it could have been avoided..

Yea air travel is still by far much safer than anything.
You factor in the amount of flights and all of that it’s pretty low this happens.
Agree, the real issue here is it was 100 percent avoidable.

So IF this was not an accident, but was an incident like 9/11 then it ranks low.
But in the US and Since after 2001 this is the worst accident or incident...
in 23+ years.

American has had a lot of bad luck with accidents/incidents.
Posted on 1/31/25 at 7:08 pm to BuckyCheese
Since 2000, and excluding the 9/11 crashes, it's the third worse.
Posted on 1/31/25 at 7:17 pm to theballguy
And another crash. FAA/ATC are government organizations.......
Posted on 1/31/25 at 7:25 pm to BuckyCheese
There are no survivors and it happened at a commercial airport.
The only horrific airplane crash I can remember that was worse was 9-11, and that wasn’t an accident.
What was the worst one if this wasn’t it.

TWA 800 is the one I remember in 90s. 230 dead.
