He was roundly cheered and supported as he left the ship. Would be interested in the board's take on what happened here.

because he was a fricking moron

Imagine if every fricking military leader took every fricking gripe to the public.

Griping is an artform in the military. Of course they cheered.

Hey, why don't we run the military by voice vote!

Chain of Command...that breaks down and the military is done.

He is a snowflake who leaked info to his hometown paper instead of walking down the hall to his Superior..He put the US in a vulnerable position against our enemies...giving them knowledge of what could be a Navy wide problem and a defense nightmare.

He did not follow protocol or chain of command and sent an email to 20 plus people.

He could have simply walked to the room next door and talked to a Admiral and Strike Group leader

The ship was on the way to Guam at the time to deal with the issue.

The ship is the perfect study (control group) for research about this.

5000 relatively healthy sailors together and isolated and exposed.

You can bet they will all be tested for corona virus and for antibodies of exposure and recovery by scientist and doctors to gain a lot of data about spread and cure rate on an isolated healthy group.

Maybe it was because he was leaving the ship. Think of it as subliminal clapping and cheering.

He was the commander of a U.S. nuclear asset in a dangerous region. He broadcast a potential weakness to threats unknown. He placed every Sailor and Marine serving on that ship at far greater risk in addition to 340 million Americans...
He deserved to have his arse sacked!!!

leaking information about the combat readiness of a ship

which can fall into the hands of people who don't like us, is a no-no

Oh come on. I’m not saying he shouldn’t have been fired. But he did what he thought was best for his men. That is NOT an embarrassment.

He is a commander of one of our largest aircraft carriers. Carriers are our first strike defense anywhere in the world. You should never allow the enemy to know that a carrier could potentially be down and you don’t need to be a naval commander to understand that. He informed the world that our carrier was down due to this virus and that is totally unacceptable. Relieving him was the proper course of action.
