(Why Louisiana stays poor) Is this video accurate? Old but if it’s inaccurate, how so?

PBS video on Louisiana’s business/tax system.

I’m a conservative btw but there’s got to be an explanation for why Louisiana is so pathetic. If this video is wrong, how so? Seems pretty accurate and we convince ourselves that we aren’t being taken advantage of.

Pure propaganda. Only one viewpoint was presented, that of the Together Louisiana morons and a very official sounding "environmentalist".

Louisiana is not gonna be fixed by more taxes and government spending. That has already been tried for over a hundred years now.

i find they did a good job of exposing inefficiencies in Louisiana’s industry policy/ negotiations compared to other state’s handling and deals. Got a whole lot of shite state for us a key position on the map.

Without the petrochemical industry Louisiana's economy would be based solely on agriculture.

No more so than any other southern state.

Would it surprise you to learn LA was not one of the top 5 in number of slaves held?

But blacks Are majority holders of very poor statistics such as

Fatherless homes
Violent crime
Government dependency
High school drop out rates.

And Louisiana is 1/3 black. The cultural deficiencies impact all of us in the State.

I wouldn't be surprised to see frickery going on, but it seems the complaint is about property taxes?

I don't think this state's issues are funding for police, fire, and public schools.

EDIT: Also pretty telling they've turned off comments. When I see that red flags go up.

No correlation exist in the amount of money spent and the quality of an education. This has been debunked as many times as the Teachers Unions have screamed it.

LA is poor because of the people are voting for scumbags who hold the purse strings. Has been that way for eons.

No.

Don’t have the time to unpack the bias in there, maybe in the future.

Agreed. The issue (95+% of the time) is a shitty home environment.

Could your answer be an example of a bigger reason why Louisiana stays poor? There has historically been an “other” to scapegoat as the source of everything negative. Which has prevented a real push from the majority of the voting population for structural improvement

What about by percentage of population? Seems like knowing that would be relevant.

a couple thoughts

the lawyer situation is out of control and has driven major private capital investment to other states

in general, Louisiana conversation tends to communicate about the difficult/bad things while other state cultures tend to communicate about accomplishments. this makes selling investment opportunity harder. real issue saw it for 25 years.

Dual parent households teaching the value of hard work and education would overcome that.

Black families were doing better in the 60s than they are today (with respect to income, education levels, incarceration rates, etc.), are we more prejudice towards minorities today than we were 60 years ago?
