It’s his affection for strongman leaders. Listen how he’s talking about Xi. Sounds like a teenie bopper meeting Bieber with backstage passes.

American Students Are Not Being Screwed Over:
Financial Breakdown of How Studies are Funded
Undergraduate Programs (Self-Funded): Over 80% of Chinese undergraduate students pay 100% of their tuition, fees, and living expenses using personal family savings or parental business revenues. Data from researchers shows that only 6.6% of Chinese undergraduates at major U.S. research universities receive any institutional funding.
The "International Premium": At public state universities (e.g., University of Michigan, University of California, University of Illinois), Chinese students are charged out-of-state tuition rates. This premium is often 2 to 3 times higher than what local American in-state students pay.
Strict Visa Requirements: To obtain an F-1 student visa from the U.S. government, applicants must legally present certified financial proof that their families possess liquid funds to cover the absolute full cost of tuition, housing, and food—which routinely ranges between $30,000 and $90,000 per year. They are barred by federal immigration law from receiving domestic, government-backed financial aid

Have never understood sleight of hand ? Have you ever been in negotiations with a company or say an adversary and offered up something as a goal while getting the deal done? While I agree that no spots should go to foreigners over Americans I do understand that the power play being made even though all the details of outcome of this trip have not been confirmed yet

Using and trusting AI numbers?
American students are being fricked over and it’s two fronts- 1 you think these schools aren’t getting funding for each one they take? You think they only lower requirements for black students and don’t take foreign kid over American because of access to grants and other things?
The second front that it fricks American students comes in the form of work visas and H1B. These groups can be had for less money, be forced to work more hours without complaint and basically never have to promote them or at least can slow play it. This happens because unlike an American citizen their option is go back to their shithole or in chinas case go home failing to steal enough and end up in camp to never be seen again because they have to have a sponsor.
American Universities for Americans first would be the only true America first answer. Does that mean no foreign students- no. It means making sure Americans are in our schools then you can fill gaps with foreign students but if we are doing that these spots should go to true allies like South Korea, Japan, and others. China and India shouldn’t be in that number.
So Americans first because it’s America, then nest and brightest from select good countries and never from enemies (China).

I get compromise but doing it with an enemy like China is butt fricking retarded.
They have a long historic track record of doing absolutely shady shite and stealing everything. These kids aren’t staying and becoming American citizens. They are going back to China.
Let’s also be real we all know if you put rules in place they won’t follow them and Dems won’t prosecute them and republicans will scream about doing it and then a Republican DoJ won’t do shite.
You can’t negotiate with terrorist. Trump keeps getting his pants pulled down by Iran by listening to their word only for them to break it 24 hours or less later. China does the same thing just sneaky about it.

How will this ruin and destroy YOUR life? Can you compare it to 10-20 million UNVETTED freeloading criminals from 3rd world countries?
Can you list a few examples on how this is going to ruin and destroy your life? You can't.

Yes to all of that, but a goal is not the same as actuality. The world’s hoards are upon us because of political ambitions and these hoards were coming in by the millions. This particular hoard is a carrot to get what OMB and crew wanted, by the time it’s hashed out and implemented OMB’s days will be almost over as will Xi’s so one would think that the short term of 1-3 years is what this is about for all involved

Yeah, but Thomas Massie doesn't kiss trump's azz so he has to go.

Ah, so this is the talking point that your ilk are going with. Interesting.

Well it doesn’t help the American youth so that’s a problem. It affects plenty of people.
Yes you can compare it to that. It’s offsetting the good of removing illegals by letting foreign enemies in that will ultimately steal all the IP from our companies and deflate the salaries of those American kids that have IT and STEM degrees.
Pretty easy to know that having more of our youth in worthless sissy degrees and then being unemployed will make the general public’s life worse. It also compromises American security since we are pushing Americans out of STEM and IT spots, so a foreign enemy now controls our security. Does that sound good to you that we are going to be helpless?
shite we saw the problems our lack of manufacturing caused during Covid. If you want the US to be a safe powerful country it’s best that actual Americans be educated and in the key roles of security fields.
I voted for OMB three times but that doesn’t mean I’m going to put my head up the arse and cheer on bad decisions. It’s like “LSU fans” supporting MM despite all the losing just because it’s LSU so we should support it.
We should be better than the left and be able to object to bad policy that directly goes against what we campaigned on.
It also has the down stream issue of if the right tells young Americans we will help make the American dream attainable and you get more and more youth vote that when you do the opposite they are going to stop voting.

The great replacement has begun. They don’t need middle class and lower Americans anymore. Die off you dummies they say. There will be not much work for them. Chinese will fall in line with their technology needs. Was a good run I guess.

Nope. I'm just curious how this is going to ruin and destroy the OP's life by this. How is this going to ruin his and his family forever?

To understand the demographics, go to the LSU engineering school annual reports[no I do not have a link] and look at the numbers of white male/female, US minority, and foreign student populations in the BS, MS and PHD programs. The bias that has been evident over the last 20 years.
1. In the BS program level there is a fair representation of diverse background that would be interested in a highly technical program
2. At the MS level, white male students are non existent. I do not believe it's the school selection process. I do believe the white males just have to go to work, earn an income.
At the MS level , then it becomes split between white female and foreign student. WF's biased toward inside office/lab environments and get financial support. Foreign students are supported by their government, do not want to go home.
3. At the PHD level it's almost all foreign students with a few White females. Foreign students get the funding and proceed with the lofty titles to become NGO's promoting gov't causes rather than design stuff.
About 10 years ago at the height of diversity/equity/inclusion BS, the annual LSU engineering dept loudly proclaimed they were adding a new dean to promote DEI and in the appendix, the enrollment numbers shook out just like the above. Two white guys masters candidates , no white guy PHD candidates

So having a foreign enemy having our farm land, so ability to grow bad crops, and a foreign enemy being trained by us is a good thing? That’s not bad for your life to have someone foreign especially an enemy control IT security and infrastructure.

The number of Chinese students in the U.S. grew rapidly over the past 15 years, peaking around 372,500 in 2019/20 before declining to 265,919 by the 2024-25 academic year. While China was the top source of students for over a decade, numbers have dropped due to pandemic restrictions and, more recently, rising geopolitical tensions and competition from other destinations.
Approximate Chinese Student Enrollment in U.S. Higher Education (Recent 10–15 Years)
2024/25: 265,919
2023/24: ~277,000
2020/21: 317,299
2019/20: 372,532 (Peak year)
2018/19: 369,548
2017/18: 363,341
2016/17: ~350,755
2012/13: 235,597
2009/10: ~127,628
Key Trends:
Growth Phase: Between 2005 and 2019, enrollment grew from roughly 62,000 to over 317,000, creating a significant impact on STEM program growth and funding.
Recent Decline: Chinese student numbers have decreased by roughly 30% since their peak, dropping for several consecutive years to 265,919 in 2024-25.
Current Standing: While they remain the second-largest group (after India), their share of the total international student population has fallen.
Economic Impact: Despite the decline, Chinese students contributed an estimated US$14.6 billion to the U.S. economy in 2024
------
TRUMP IS USING A Trade Bargaining Chip: The administration has been heavily utilizing student visa availability as a diplomatic olive branch. During the intense trade negotiations and tariff standoffs, promising Beijing a massive capacity of 500,000+ available spots functions as a strategic sign of "goodwill" without rolling back physical economic tariffs.
IIRC: Under Obama/Biden the screening was nearly non existent allowing intellectual property spies. The students will be screened and monitored. This directive was announced.
Trump needs to message this better.
