The general public doesn’t care about what happened six months ago much less three years. The electorate doesn’t give a frick about Afghanistan anymore. Sad but true.

Because the withdrawal began in 2020. Between June and September of 2020, the US presence dropped from 8,600 to 4,500. There were over 10,000 there in January 2017.

I’m almost certain it has something to do with the indignity of going all out like that in politicizing what is now considered a deep loss that ranks at the top level of solemn events in recent history. Recent and perhaps even beyond. Mentions of the failure of Biden in that matter are reasonable and acceptable, and expected, but any dwelling on the situation beyond the mention and reminder, actually a duty of any Biden opponent, going further to score political points is the polar opposite of a good move. And Trump is fully aware and observant of same. He no doubt made that determination some time ago, well before any of us here - which is pretty much this moment for the most part.
