Why is there so much more racial activism now than in the 90s, despite it being worse then

Things like police brutality, general racism, war on drugs, etc were more aggressive in the 1990s, yet the level of racial activism and racial justice movements was a fraction of what it is now, when things are better by most measures.
Why is this?
Even the early 2000s, from 2000-2010 or so, there was much less racial justice stuff.
Did the black community simply not view themselves as “targets” as much in the 90s as they do now?

Because we (white folks) are playing "lets not not excite them", and they (black folks) sense this whether through foolish misinterpretation or pure opportunism and are enjoying their new found power.

Lots of Americans literally think the issue is race.
Race is being used as the vehicle to implement more government control under “equity”.
Controlling outcomes.
Push the traditional western family structure to the margins. Push the necessity for a patriarch to the margins. Insist masculinity is toxic. Conflate militias with white supremacy. Conflate patriotism with nationalism and nationalism with white supremacy.
Sign EO with focus on eliminating “domestic terrorist” i.e. “white supremacist”, “white nationalist”, militias.
Have military “stand-down” to raise awareness of the “threat” of domestic terrorist.
Which demo is the most staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment?
