From DU and didn't want to give a link for clicks. It's on top of the board if you want to go over.

quote:

1. All this does is push things back 3 weeks. The shutdown option is there again. 2. CHIP is now off the table, and the GOP can not hold 9 million kids hostage again in 3 weeks. The GOP has lost a bargaining chip for February 8th. CHIP has been extended for 6 years. 3. There is a very vocal commitment from McConnell for a DACA bill on the floor by February 8th. If it doesn't happen, the shutdown that occurs at that time gives the Dems all the leverage. And it will give the Dems all the commercials they need to run for '18 if McConnell reneges. What did the Dems lose today? 3 weeks. That's all. What did the Dems gain today? CHIP off the table, 9 million kids get their health insurance. A vocal, with much fanfare, commitment from McConnell for a DACA vote by February 8th. Because it was just a CR that lasts 3 weeks.... the GOP has LESS leverage than they had before.

The 9mil Americans is an afterthought compared to the 800k non American.

I was about to post this. 3 weeks buys no time to create a new spending bill. Better get to work quickly.

Dude....

This was played as poorly as it could have been. Horrible optics. This is in no way any kind of "win" for dems. Schumer pulled down his pants for the U.S. taxpayers to see what is most important to him.

Never about immigrants... it's about votes. This is clear.

They still have to leave daca separate from the budget. I think it will be ok.

With the CHIP kids not being able to be used as leverage the Dims have lost everything.

Shut that bitch down on Feb 9th.

All of it. Repubs were never going to threaten CHIP so that's a retarded talking point. The whole deal is based on Dem's trust that McConnell will follow through and allow a floor vote on some type of DACA legslation. They're still going to have to fully fund the wall (and since they've now caved probably have to agree to further concessions) to get Trump to sign

Reverse the argument and now make it "what will Democrats threaten now that CHIP is off the table"

They've already caved

The fact that the thought of keeping 9mil kids hostage to pass a bill is all they care about amazes me. No. The left denied it 5 times before their arse was brought to the fan. They want 4th term abortion at this point

They aren't thinking clearly here. With CHIP off the table, the Dems can't claim the GOP wants to kill American children. What's left is actual funding for the government and discussions around DACA, which is going to be just as bad for optics for the Dems in a few weeks as it was this past weekend. It will still boil down to the Dems holding the American citizens "hostage" in favor of pushing for illegals to get a free ride.

I'm not sure how this is leverage for the Democrats considering DACA isn't something most of the GOP objects to

The WH is all over the place talking about their 4 immigration goals (including DACA) as the basis for reopening the government and how Democrats thus knew that in the vote.

If Democrats don't want to do the three non-DACA items in 3 weeks, it's easy to pin it on them (theoretically).

So you think Rs have more leverage at this point? I mean, you can find several threads/posts on this board using CHIP as one of the key talking points.

The argument isn't that they have the upper hand, simply their position has improved, which is accurate.

Only if the Dems keep chain migration lottery shite out the their proposed bill, you think they have the ability to piss off their left base over coming to the center? If they load it with bullshite, which is likely, it goes down in flames and they got nothing for the Schumer shutdown.

I got your spin Huckleberry:
1- McConnell promised to bring DACA to floor, but not passage.
2- House didn’t promise shite.
3- Trump didn’t promise shite.
4- Polls caused Dimocrats to surrender. In three weeks, Americans won’t support shutdown over illegals.

How many off days does the senate have the next three weeks? I know they work a lot for it to be split 51-49 every time. I don't want my concerns to take up their time

God I hate this political environment where everything boils down to which side wins, which side loses, which side caused this, or caused that. It's so petty and middle school level.
