re: Why does this simple truth get lost on so many people (such as jd Vance?)

The word 'believe' is not in the quote you posted. Women spend thousands of dollars on clothing they will never wear. They buy it because they BELIEVE they will wear it. It satisfies their lust to throw money away for a perceived benefit. Thus, female stupidity is a major part of our economy.

In my 25 years on here they have always been leftist.

You're making 2 conflicting arguments. I told you to make up your mind.
Do we want to follow their tariff model that has led to inferior results of our model without the same policy that has led to vastly superior results?
I clearly think our model is better and love our results.

And I’ve explained that I’m describing temporary tariffs to bring other countries to drop their tariffs. That’s not “following a model”, it’s forcing others to play on a level field with no tariffs, as I initially described.
I will add that our “model” for more than 100 years after the founding of the country was to generate government revenue from tariffs, not income tax. So “our model” of using income tax and not tariffs isn’t some ancient tradition.

Antitheft laws already exist. That's not what's being discussed.
Don't try to re-frame the argument to avoid your point being blown up.
Regulations on the free market have been considered leftist economic behaviors/theories 2004-2016

In theory, yes.
However I’ve come to the conclusion that free trade can only function properly between free markets. When one side (China) controls the capital and means of production it doesn’t function properly as the wealth isn’t flowing into the economy but instead is flowing to the State.
China and other countries figured out how to use our free market system against us. It’s up to us to figure out how to get out of it.

quote:In some instances, it really is not that hard. The WTO, for example, has continually granted China "developing nation" status. That is so ridiculous that Xi actually voluntarily gave up some of the associated trade advantages the WTO was willing to hand out.
China and other countries figured out how to use our free market system against us. It’s up to us to figure out how to get out of it.
At the same time, the WTO has demonstrated impotence, or deliberate unwillingness, to pursue trade secret protection, counterfeiting, online piracy, and technology transfer practices in China.
So the United States simply needs to account for that. Tariffs are an excellent means to that end.

quote:Nope. Every good we buy from China (or any other country) we buy at a massive discount because of our currency. That does great harm to their economy, devalues their labor, and makes accumulating wealth much more difficult. China would make the argument that the US is anti-free-market because the things we do to keep the dollar strong. And they have a valid point.
China and other countries figured out how to use our free market system against us.
If we wanted to "trade on an even playing field" as so many claim to want, you'd do it by devaluing the dollar. And the US would be far worse off for it.

The negative externalities of this policy only affect China, though.

The WTO has made clear it's inability, or unwillingness, to impose reasonable consequence. That leaves it to the United States to take its own consequence rendering actions.

The dollar is the world's reserve fiat currency because it has the backing and support of the world's primary economic powerhouse. The RMB or Euro could supplant the dollar if they were deemed as stable, or as effectively backed. They simply aren't.
Regarding manipulation to strengthen our currency, one would need to compare its value, and that of others, to gold.
