Why does our government allow dogs to viciously attack, maim, and kill people?

We always hear the politicians scream whenever a violent person uses a gun to attack, maim, or kill someone. These politicians will do whatever they can to remove your ability to protect yourself.

Why do the politicians stay silent, especially when it comes to violent dog breeds, such as the Pit Bull, which is responsible for over 68% of all dog on human attacks? It does not make sense.

I believe I would rather be shot than mauled. What say you?

A potbelly pig can protect one from a muslim. With that in mind, I pray more Americans are eating more pork.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I completely agree. Which is why one must be armed when they let the dogs out.

Because they're not all emotionally driven women?

I have seen far more owners of pit bulls get their a$$ whipped bad than I have seen non-owners. Do you think that is why they need a pit bull?

You'd get more of the attention you crave from this on the OT.

Damn Timeoday! Grow a pair! Dogs are similar to firearms.... if you handle responsibly, all is good. It's not the dogz fault.

It’s the dog owners.

I walk 3-5 miles 5-6 days a week in my neighborhood. Couple of years ago a dog flashed out into the street, snarling and barking and lunging at me. I had never seen this dog before. I was startled and yelled and put up my hands and my walking stick. It was a boxer and weighed about 50 pounds, so not huge but big enough. I’m not friends with the couple but I knew the wife was a SAHM and her car was in the driveway. I yelled several times for someone in the house to get their dog off me. I tried to walk off but he kept nipping at my legs. I concealed carry everywhere I go. After a minute or two of this I pulled my gun out of my waistband because the mfer would not leave me alone.

Anyway, I got on down the road. Next day or so on my walk, the guy homeowner came out into the street and confronted me: “Did you pull your gun on my dog yesterday?” Me: “Yes I did.” He bitched and made excuses and said his dog “wouldn’t hurt a butterfly.” His wife was on the porch bitching at me also. He said if I was afraid of dogs I shouldn’t walk past his house. I couldn’t believe the bullshite this fvker was talking. I told him he’s lucky his dog wasn’t dead.

This is a nice area with nice middle class homes. Probably 98% low melanin. Not ghetto. We live in an unincorporated area, not a municipality so it’s patrolled by the sheriff’s department. I called the next day and eventually talked to animal control. They assured me if my story was straight I did nothing wrong. A few days later, I got a 3-page handwritten letter in the mail from the wife, apologizing and basically asking forgiveness for being such assholes. Said they were getting quotes for a fence or invisible dog fence. I think they may have called the county and got their shite straightened out for them. Within a few months they had a brand new fence around their back yard where the dogs stay. I haven’t had any issues since then.

I love dogs. I had two that died in 2021 and 2023. Both 12 years old that I’d had since they were babies. Black Lab and a Cairn Terrier. But people and their dogs can be crazy AF.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but can you link to your source on that?

I ask because there isn't an actual breed of dog called the "Pit Bull."

It's an umbrella term for about four actual recognized breeds, only one of which has the words "pit" and "bull" in the name. Plus all of the mixed dogs with one or more of those four in their blood.

Basically any dog that someone thinks looks like what their concept of a "Pit Bull" is gets labelled as one. Especially if they bite someone.

The significance being (obviously) that when you have that many animals being subjectively classified as a breed that doesn't even actually exist, it's no wonder that "they" have a disproportionate percentage of attacks on "their" record.

You may know more than me but as far as I know, it's an American Bull Terrier and a Staffordshire Terrier. And I agree, this is a tired argument dressed up by the conservative right to blame a certain type of dog and a certain type of owner for their own white victim mentality. I have a female Staffordshire Terrier.

See "melatonin" reference above in this thread.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormones in humans, produced by the pineal gland. It regulates sleep/wake cycles and is available as a dietary supplement.

I believe the word you're looking for is "melanin", a natural pigment responsible for human skin color.

Seriously, you are making this about the “conservative right”? I am conservative right and own a Pitt bull. Do you not think there are some wacko libtards that are against the breed? Way to twist it brother, I am impressed.

And you think this sensibly applies to pitbull ownership? You’re a superficial thinker if so.

I had a neighbor that proved negligent and incompetent at keeping his Cane Corso contained in his yard. The dog was aggressive towards anyone that was not their family. It made its way out unattended numerous times and threatened people on my property numerous times. Police came out and could do nothing since by their arrival the dog had been contained. It was basically a waiting game until the dog maimed someone and then action could be taken. Thankfully they moved.

The legal authority to regulate ownership of dangerous animals is not in question. A case could easily be made for pit bull breeds to be legally recognized as uniquely aggressive and dangerous by their genetic makeup. There should at minimum be insurance and liability requirements for ownership of uniquely dangerous dog breeds. That could at the least help weed out the massive amount of ownership by negligent retards who don’t need these breeds in their neighborhood homes where they can threaten children and people outside their own homes.

I love dogs as well and expect the owners to be responsible.

Every dog I have ever owned has been professionally trained for obedience and protection. They are part of my family.

Not in the slightest. A firearm is an inanimate object that requires human intent. A dog is living creature that has no concept of human law or morality and acts independent of its owner. The comparison is actually totally idiotic.
