Why do y’all think Rispone’s message was so unpopular?

His message was I'm Mini Trump and that was all it was.
Dude has a heckuva rags to riches story and he's done plenty out of his own pocket for the state, especially education and inner city kids.
This is what happens when someone hires ALL of their campaign consultants from out of state.
shite he could have won the runoff strictly by showing how JBE threatened to cut LSU Football, which he actually did threaten to do. This in a year when LSU is competing for all of the marbles.

He was an awful candidate and the voters of South La got exactly what they deserved. Unfortunately we all have to suffer the consequences of their stupidity

He got a few votes less than half, running against an incumbent. That’s not unpopular.

Yep.
The comparison was absolutely inappropriate, and not in ways that were helpful Rispone.
Making yourself into a mini Trump was always going to alienate moderates in the suburbs because they'll assume that you have the same drawbacks as Trump does like the same baggage, crude behavior and so on. In doing so, he absolutely hurt himself with the same people who stopped David Vitter.
And Rispone is nothing like Trump as he's a soft spoken guy and gentlemanly guy and that was always going to be a disappointment for people looking for the same kind of Trumpy leadership in Louisiana.

And that should've been the focus of his campaign in ads, speeches and so on. The fact that his campaign didn't even think about it shows how incompetent and ignorant they were.

I suggested on here that Rispone should hire whoever ran Jim Donelon's campaign and Lionel Rainey from the Abraham campaign and some Rispone supporters just laughed.

Rispone's message was fine. Minorities in New Orleans and Baton Rouge believed the false ads that he's best buddies with David Duke.
