How is the Social Security DIB program welfare?
SSI is absolutely welfare.
It is not even evident the OP recognized the distinction. He's saying "SSI", yet talking about old folks and retirement.

Old Republicans get mad because they do not collect despite paying in to the system their whole life.
Old Dems get happy beacause they collect despite not paying in to the system at all.
Very simple.

True, though not pertinent whatsoever to the OP.

How is the Social Security DIB program welfare? You have to have paid into it long enough to receive a certain number of quarters of coverage and the amount you would receive is directly related to the amount you paid in.
SSI is absolutely welfare.
Because if you get SSD, you get MORE than you otherwise would have.
Example, my uncle was a carpenter, when he was 60 years old he fell off a roof and broke both his legs. He went on social security disability. Not only was he able to sign up 5 years earlier than he would have been able to sign up for regular social security, but he got more per month than he was scheduled to get when he retired because the government figures that you need more per month at 60 than at age 65 AND that amount does not decrease when he reaches 65. Meaning that for the rest of his life he will collect more per month than he would have strictly on social security PLUS the 5 years he collected because he was disabled.
If not for that welfare, the government would have simply said "too bad, you can collect SS once you're 65"
Long story short, no SSD is not simply what you have paid in and earned.

you dont think these same people would have much preferred to invest & manage that money themselves rather than seeing it leak out of every paycheck over the last 50+ years?
You say that but I've seen very little opposition to SSI over the years. Are you saying the 65+ crowd actively tried to get rid of SSI before beginning to receive it?

So OP is a part-time retail salesman trying for the Trump voter zing but is actually mistaken in his OP attempting to do so.
Interesting

I don't care what they call it as long as they don't lose my routing number and account number.

I always cringe when I hear clients start with the “but my so and so” anecdote, but I’ll bite anyway.
Did he collect DIB benefits at 60 or did he start drawing his OASDI earlier?

Old people collect Social security, not supplemental income. How can you be so stupid to not know the difference after it's been explained no less than 3 times in this fricking thread?

you have a choice to pay taxes that go to other welfare programs?
Yeah SS is supposed to be allocated for those who paid into it. Taxes go to fund government retard. Two completely separate things.

because it is not means tested?

Are you on SSI?
Let 'em have it.

Let 'em have it.

I don't know what that is. All I know is that at age 60 he broke his legs and had to retire. It took him 6 months to prove he was disabled, but when he did he started collecting social security disability which paid him more per month than straight up social security would have paid him at age 65 based on his income. Further it's obvious that he started collected 5 years earlier than he would have been eligible.
Anecdote? Yes, but obviously exactly the scenario SSD is set up to take care of, it's welfare though, whether you think good or bad it IS welfare. Just not means tested welfare.

I guess you and I have different definitions of welfare.
