Why are WNBA games played in front of small crowds?

They were reportedly getting lots of new viewers and folks in the stands due to Clark, but they had to beat her down because she's white.

I've asked at least a dozen guys at my gym over the last few years: Can you name a WNBA team? Not the city, but the actual mascot of the team like 'Tigers'? Not one guy has been able to name one. I can't.

Good question.

What are all those people doing there?

Must be Dairy Queen coupons on the back of the free tickets.

Women's sports just aren't the high octane entertainment that men's sports are.

Sports-Ball watchers tend to be male.

So... women don't watch sports much and men want to see manly combat.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with "woke".. it is what it has always been.

Clark gave ladies sports-ball an interesting watch but that, too, will fade.

The exception was the tennis boom of the 1970s. Everyone started playing tennis and watching the weekend matches on TV like Chris Evert against Martina Navratolova. The boom ended by 1980 because the networks put on too many tournaments and there was no big event to look forward to.

Same reason nobody watches preseason games. The quality of play is simply not as good.

Without writing a novel, I’ll just say that’s a hard hard sport for a white kid to make it in, especially living in an area where the blacks run it.

It’s terrible basketball. Outside of 2-3 players none of the rest could make a good high school boys team. Aka US women’s Olympic team getting slaughtered by a boys middle school team

Most of the fans in attendance are little girls and lesbians.

Here's second season Bayou Barbie phenom, Angel Reese, with at least 2 double dribbles and some traveling thrown in on top.

Because it is wholly subsidized by the NBA.

Theres no way the average sports fan can't name a team or two. Off the top of my head I can think of the Liberty, Fever, Dream, Aces, and Storm (last one only because their whole team was on a flight with me years ago)

If the WNBA wants to get more viewers they need to have better looking women on the court. It's really that simple.

I think I’m probably an upper 10-20% sports fan and put in the spot it’s dicey whether I’d pull a name. I’m familiar with a few but not a gimme any would pop to mind any given moment

I’m a fan of women’s sports. I watch the gymnasts in the Olympics. And women’s beach volleyball. And back in the day when it was a thing, a little bit of the lingerie football league.

WNBA? Nah, I’m good.
