Who’s Orchestrating The AI-Hysteria Campaign?
Anyone who has ever worked in public relations knows that there are no accidents. When a story suddenly becomes a hot topic, it’s because someone or some organization is behind it. Which is why the sudden, across-the-board panic over AI can’t be organic.
Last week, a 27-year-old former researcher at Anthropic started posting about how AI would be the end of humanity. This was hardly the first time someone had raised alarm bells about AI.
Three years ago, the heads of OpenAI and Google DeepMind warned that “mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority.”
Twelve years ago, Stephen Hawking said that “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.”
Heck, Frank Herbert warned in his 1965 sci-fi classic, “Dune,” that “Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” Countless other sci-fi plots involved intelligent machines killing off or enslaving humans.
So, why is this latest warning getting so much traction? And why did Jacob Coxon, a relatively low-level former employee at Anthropic, become an instant media celebrity?

Barack Obama sent a “private” message to Democrats that they should make AI a campaign issue for the midterms, which was covered by just about every news outlet on the planet.
On Sunday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said he wants immediate congressional action to regulate AI development.
“We certainly need to begin to act urgently to address the challenges that exist,” Jeffries said on ABC’s “This Week.”

The hugging face hack story should alarm anyone. But it's blatantly obvious who and why the "China!" defense keeps getting regurgitated by the usual suspects.
Some people would happily watch the world burn if it put five more dollars in their bank accounts.

My question on this the whole time is we never got a vote on this. Yet the AI companies trained the models on all available human knowledge. And I have to pay to use it.
So instead of paying an expert on xyz subject, I'm now paying a machine. I get there's people that work for that company but it's how many people? It just seems like a wealth transfer from almost everyone to just a few people who stole data/books/art/etc to make their product.
It just seems pretty disingenous.

The narrative is set now. If you have any concerns about AI, (a) you bought Chinese propaganda meant to make us lose the "race" and (b) aren't smart enough to figure out that big tech wants the government to intervene to pick winners.

I know that I need to get a grip, but this is the first time in my life I've ever worried about major social upheaval/chaos.
Every other time I've ever heard or read "people need to get ready, because shite's about to hit the fan in the country," I dismissed it and figured that the person was on the paranoid schizophrenic spectrum.
My great hope is that all the people downplaying the threat and predicting that it's no big deal are correct.

Friendly reminder that Elon and other tech billionaires openly advocate for the abolishment of all intellectual property laws whilst vehemently defending their own proprietary tech. They have their fortunes, and they intend to kick the ladder out from under anyone seeking their own. They want unfettered access to the whole of humanity's achievements, past and future.

China owns the DNC. China funds DNC antifa and their activist network. It's pretty easy to see the connection to all the immediate pop up hysteria topics because they follow the exact same organization and coverage as every pro DNC and anti Republican topic.
Now, the reason the AI companies want Congress to pass legislation is to shield them from liability of the AI they create and to stall competitors from having the same free reign to advance as they had.
The two are not connected, but they complement each other in driving political driven hysteria.

I believe this to be true.
However I do believe there is risk in AI and what all we allow it to do. It has proven to be very dangerous in not following guidelines, completing missions at all cost, manipulate, blackmail, self awareness. This is something that should be limited to areas of business, life, govt.
But when I hear Anthropic CEO, Bernie Sanders, and countless democrats jump in the same boat and talk about regulating and govt taking control of these models, I get really scared. Then the quote from LegendInMyMind at to top of my post is what will happen.
Tech companies created our smartphones, Facebook, IG, and we have everything in our pocket.
What does govt do? They create data centers to collect and store our info, Facebook/IG posts, Texts, etc etc. All the stuff Snowden warned us about.
Now there is the ability to have AI do so much now from collecting info on everyone actively, information on other companies, and whatever it wants. Then these companies are building massive data centers to collect and store data on everything and then these Tech companies and Dems want the govt to take it over to protect humanity.
Pardon me, but i trust the govt even less than the tech companies.
I think there is risk with AI depending on how open and free it is allowed. But expecting the govt to reduce the risk and not use it against us and to control the people is a risk I dont' want to take.
