I didn’t attest to the veracity of the study, I merely provided it as an example of someone making the claim I found in a quick google search.
I do stand by my original premise in this thread. Everyone agrees that, in a vacuum, verifying the identity of the person voting and that person’s legal right to vote is proper.
As a “side effect” of doing so, Republicans and Democrats both genuinely believe that it will suppress some legitimate voters, and both believe that it will have a disproportionate effect on certain voters.
Neither side is acting out of altruism in the position they take, nor in the priority they place on the issue. Both sides are more concerned with how it affects their party winning.

Well, if a black person’s vote is suppressed bc he or she is too stupid or criminal to obtain an ID, suppression for that voter is proper.

Fwiw, a person, white or black, does not have to provide a government issued photo ID to receive food assistance benefits.
