Then that player will just sign with another school that doesnt put tight constraints on their NIL money. That's how it works in an arms race, as long as someone else is always willing to up the ante, everyone else eventually has to also to keep up.

That's true if only one school operated this way. I'm saying it's surprising that all the bigger schools haven't gotten together and decided to do this sort of thing with NIL, since the Boosters are spending so much on athletes. However, the transfer portal benefits the coaches as much as the players when they have positions that need filled by experienced athletes.

I think you're probably right. Sark should have fired himself as OC last season and hired a dedicated OC. Arch is definitely not a great QB, but some of it could be Sarks playcalling and trying to make him a 100 percent pocket passer.

It’s unsustainable. Every player should be given an agent and there should be 2 or 3 year contracts so the portal doesn’t completely ruin college football.

It's surprising the Booster organizations at the bigger schools haven't already started requiring players to sign contracts for NIL money with heavy financial penalties for transfering based off how much time they played for the school...It seems like they could legally do it, but they would probably need to form one big managed Booster NIL fund at each school, and all of the companies/ individuals giving NIL money would have to be required to route the money through the managed fund and not make agreements with athletes outside of the managed fund. Then lawyers hired by the fund could make the contracts with the individual athletes.

Would love that honestly, but your SEC commissioner/ ESPN and the BIG's commissioner ruined the old Big 12 with their greed by raiding it. If Texas and OU went anywhere, they'd probably go to the BIG.
The games haven't been that interesting so far this year. Georgia/ OU was a blowout, A&M/ LSU was pretty much a blowout. Those 2 games could have had high viewership but people probably turned those off early. Only truly exciting game I have watched so far was Texas/ Ohio State and that looked like a blowout at halftime. A lot of people probably turned that off too and didn't see Texas come back.

College Football is hosed though. They killed longterm rivalries with Conference Realignment and NIL/ Transfer Portal is causing chaos. No player can be considered loyal to their school. It doesn't have the same feel anymore.

I'm sure this is going to make a lot of ADs rethink things.

What's the ROI for spending $20M on an unranked football team?

It's kind of up to the Boosters, and football is King amongst college and pro sports.

I’m so glad I grew up and witnessed peak SEC football. Before we added Texas Missouri and Oklahoma. Nothing Southeastern about them. Now this. Everyday they ruin college football more and more.

It’s going to become a garbage product mirroring the NFL

College football was pretty much divided into perfect conferences before your SEC commisioner/ ESPN and Big10 commissioner got greedy and decided to raid the old original Big 12...You can gripe about Texas and OU being in the SEC all you want, but that's the root cause and only reason they joined, they were left no other choice but to join the SEC or BIG to improve their football schedules and stay more relevant. Plus, to earn more money from sports/ TV contracts.

If they had joined the BIG, the SEC would be hosed right now. Your almighty SEC King Saban saw this writing on the wall his own self and decided to retire because the players would no longer be loyal to the school, they'd be chasing the almighty dollar. The BIG would have way more Booster funded NIL money to play around with than the SEC plus 2 blue bloods with big time access to recruiting in Texas and the South. It would have given the BIG conference a bigger footprint in recruiting the South than they already have if Texas and OU joined the BIG.

In other words, they did the SEC a solid by joining.

Longhorns will say OU all day and I do actually believe them when they say this.

But if you asked the question which team they would rather see win in a head-to-head A&M vs OU, I think you could learn a thing or two about which team they despise more.

I rarely care about the outcome of the OU vs A&M game, but I do remember one of their games back in the original old Big 12 when OU was whipping everyone in the conference, and it was getting old and tiresome just seeing them win so much in Stoops early years. Anyway, it was Reggie Mcneal's coming out party at A&M at QB as a freshman coming off the bench early in the game, and A&M beat them and Reggie played an awesome game. OU was ranked #1 at the time, and got beat by a freshman QB. I gladly rooted for the Aggies in that game.

I lived in Oklahoma at that time, and it was super sweet listening to grown men OU fans literally crying on sports radio talk shows after that game. I was an A&M super fan for a few days, and razzed my sad coworker OU fans like crazy about that game.

I generally rooted for Nebraska to beat OU back then too, and I hated the whiney Nebraska biotch fanbase...I honestly didn't know who to hate worse out of Nebraska or OU, but decided it would be sickening to ever root for OU.
OU for sure. The rivalry with Aggie is like a rivalry between a male dog and a fire hydrant and UT is the dog pissing on it. OU is a different kind of rivalry, mostly hate filled, but also with a little respect.

Get nowhere? Who can say what the world would look like had there never been any intervention? There seems to be a prevelence of thought that geopolitics would have been identical, and the US would have saved many billions of dollars, and everyone would be happy as a quohog. Well yay for limited imagination

It's not lack of imagination. We spent Trillions fighting in Afghanistan and what did we gain? Some wars make perfect sense, and others don't. I mean, yes, we needed to take out Bin Laden, and we accomplished that, but what the heck else did we gain? Where's the bang for the buck? We spent 1.7 trillion in Iraq and now we are closing/ shutting down our last base there and getting out. We got nothing out of that; except, a dead Sadam Husein, and maybe made Iran stronger in the region. This crap is backfiring on us.

Wouldn't we be better off just becoming "Fortress America" in the long run? I mean lock our dang borders down and layer the country with defense systems and quit trying to police the world. Maybe we make Canada, Mexico, and South America part of that fortress. Let the rest of the world's good guys be the police for a change if they want that role. We cannot afford it anymore...

We got enough problems in our own country that are long overdue to be fixed. The more we let the problems grow, the more chance this country fails from within, and the rest of the world that you seem to be worried about now will be the last of our concerns.

The only reason A&M was /is a legit threat is because of the money they can offer recruits. NIL has made teams like them, texas tech etc... have a chance at recruits. I mean look where they are ranked in team recruiting ranking. Do you seriously think kids from across the nation would consider them or Texas tech if not for suitcases full of money? I think once the salary cap type thing hits college football then you will see them drop back to their bottom to middle of the pack spot in the conference.

How do you put a salary cap on rich boosters paying the players? If they make it illegal above board over the table, the boosters will just go back to doing it under the table...

I’m just noticing that some (many?) people who want young Americans to go into the trades don’t do trades themselves nor send their children in that direction

I never wanted my oldest son to go into trades, but he never listened to me much anyway, and I had to learn to accept he definitely wasn't college material like the rest of our family. He could barely stay attentive long enough to pass high school and hated it.

He went through a welding program which I thought would likely be useless for him to make a decent living. But, he has a knack for learning things that interest him very well and works really hard. His welding skills helped him get a job with a drilling company, and also, his knowledge he had gained working on mining equipment under older more experienced welders helped impress his bosses at the drilling company. Now he's barely 21 years old and makes well over a hundred thousand a year. He is being trained to run his own crew and drilling rig and will soon be making 200,000 plus a year if things go as planned...

I mean sometimes parents can be completely wrong and need to let their kids find their own way in life.

I’m not younger generation and I see absolutely zero benefit for the USA to get dragged into wars by Israel.

Same here. I respect Israel, they are fighters, and feel bad for their persecution in WW2, but I think the money we spend on these stupid wars in the Middle East that seem to get us nowhere except in major debt could be better spent on making Nuclear weapons obsolete.

I mean put some of that money into research and technology to make better defense weapons that can knock any kind of nukes out of the sky, scramble their operating systems or whatever. Set up impenetrable layers of missile defense along our coasts and in Greenland or whereever is the best strategic location. Then demonstrate to the rest of the world you are not penetrating our defenses with Missiles no matter what, and we still have the ability to turn your country into a parking lot if you wanna mess with us or our allies.

Colt McCoy, durability aside, would have been excellent in the Sark offense with his quick release, high accuracy, and ability to see the field. Maybe Sark needs to sign a few more "gritty" types. I bet there are many 3A, 3 star QBs from Texas that would jump at the chance to play for the Longhorns at minimal cost initially.

I think it all had to do with Colts dad being a coach. I mean he was being groomed his whole life. I know Arch had the Manning family but were they really around grooming him all the time? I mean Peyton and Eli were off in the NFL winning Superbowls and doing there own thing.

I'm sure Arch had the best QB coaching money could buy, but the player also has to put in the effort to make himself better and also has to form the chemistry with the receivers by working out with them all year long like Colt did. I don't think Arch is putting in that amount of effort. He is too slow at processing things that should come instinctively by now after multiple years in Sark's offense. Too scared to make decisions sometimes in the passing game. He should be way ahead of where he is at now as a QB if he was really putting in the work.

Maybe we will become the next Nebraska; maybe we won't. But I can't confidently say that OU will be back, although I would love to.

OU will never be the next Nebraska, you will always have a foothold in Texas recruiting and recruiting in the South. Nebraska lost theres when they left the Big 12.

I think the big problem for OU is everyone else in the SEC outside of Texas, A&M and OU has a foothold in Texas recruiting now; especially, LSU, Bama, and Georgia. The studs that OU used to could cherry pick away from the Texas teams have a lot of options now that are equal to if not better than OU.. Texas and OU used to have the whole state locked down and could take the pick of the litter.

Venables has issues and has been wildly inconsistent but even if OU goes 5-7 or even 4-8 this year he's still better than both those fools.

Yeah, you're probably right, it's hard to make them look good. Blake was one heck of a recruiter though and would out do both Strong and Venables in recruiting any day. He had some real studs on his bench, but just didn't know how to use them. They were smashing everyone back then when Bob Stoops came along and took over Blake's team..Venables was just left with whoever Lincoln Riley did not want to take with him to USC or other teams didn't pick off from OU. It's a different time with the transfer portal now.
Venables not being successful at OU is a shocker to me. He was there with Stoops from the very beginning and watched how Bob Stoops turned that program around quickly. He could have just followed the same plan from back then. Granted, Stoops had a little more talent to work with that Blake left for him. They were able to shuffle players from defense to offense and vice-versa and bring in Josh Hueple at QB and it all just came together fast for them and the program was rolling again...They hired the best OCs at the time to complement the Defense (Mike Leach and Mangino)..

They are definitely going backwards now though. Venables makes Blake and even Charlie Strong look like good hires at this point.

I’m with this dude. Give me a solid 30-40 year old woman

Same here. I've been with my wife since she was 20 years old and beautiful with a near perfect curvy body. She has just got better with age. Late 20s to late 30s has been spectacular...Teenage poon is overrated by a lot.. It's good to look at and all when they are legal, but way overrated.
As a Texas fan, I'm ready for the Arch Manning experiment to be over. He's an OK QB. All he really needs to be able to do is drive the bus with the OLine, RBs, and receivers he has, but sometimes it seems like he has a little buzz going, and his thinking and processing gets super slow, and he runs the bus off in the bar ditch. Some of it is Sarks playcalling, but maybe Sark has to limit the offense because of Arch's ability to understand.

He's lucky to have the running game and defense bail him out so far, but there will come a game this season, Arch and the offense are going to blow it big time.
I don't know about by 4 TDs, but Georgia would definitely be the toughest matchup for Texas to win right now.

Sark needs to fire himself as OC at Texas and hire a dedicated OC to work with the offense. The defense is pretty solidly coached by Muschamp and it shows. I don't think the offense is getting the same coaching and reps.
