Sure. The challenge of course is you need to put them somewhere close to the power generation. Thankfully most people don't live next do a fricking power plant so most of this question is already solved without anyone needing to think much about it.

My work is about 50 percent data centers. They are being used for raw computing power. The government (read CIA and NSA) previously operated much smaller data centers to sort through your phone calls and other communications to identify possible threats.

These are much larger facilities, but they operate on the same principle. They want to process data (flock cameras, cell phone data, online images, basically any information they can consume) and produce a product that can then be sold to the highest bidder.

The reason they need to be so much larger is because there is so much more information about people floating out there that they want to include it all.

Pair that unfathomable information gathered with today's AI capability and you have an almost godlike entity that can tell you everything you would want to know about a person, group, military, country, etc.

AI can now track all of our nuclear subs based on seemingly unrelated information if they have enough data.

THAT is why AI advancement (and the data centers that power them) are of the utmost importance to our government.
