When did our culture quit producing men that would “do what’s right”?

My dad is the epitome of a man who had no gray area. There’s right ... and there’s wrong. And you always do what’s right no matter how difficult it may be. At his retirement dinner, there were numerous people that worked under him that spoke to this being a quality that they respected and that helped them later in their careers. I’ve talked to him about it and he got it from his dad....a lower middle class guy who served in the war and worked for a linen company and was a farmer.

Where did we lose this? I watch politics and it almost seems like a game of get away with what you can and laugh it off if you get caught. We continue to vote in crooks and moral reprobates to govern us. Idiots and scumbags that are celebrated.

Our whole system is based on a population that holds people accountable for their actions. That’s failing everywhere you look. Politicians on both sides drive us to calamity for their own benefit. How do they sleep at night?

When did we stop valuing people with moral character? It’s fricking depressing.

What do you think about this? You're speaking as if you think this is admirable.

families and schools used to set the moral compass of our society.

Parents set the example for their kids and Schools taught the golden Rule.

Then came the attack on the family. Divorce became normal, fathers lost their children, slowly men decided not to be men.

Now we’re two or three generations into the Single mother experiment and we have a bunch is men who don’t know what it means to be a man.

The TV and internet determine right from wrong now instead of the family and our schools are just communist indoctrination centers.

the worst of it was caused by the baby boomers and their parents doing such an awful job of parenting. But the groundwork was laid as far back as the transcendentalist movement.

His Dad does not believe in situational ethics or morals that are convenient. It’s called character.

Your dad sounds mentally ill.

To only see things in binary is a sub human trait.

That^^.

No more complicated than that, imo.

I hated it growing up. I always wished he was that guy who let the kids drink at his house or blamed the cops if you got picked up for doing something dumb.

Now...as an adult with kids...I understand and realize that all we have is our God given sense of right and wrong to guide us. Its one of the most important things he passed along and I’ll always strive to live up to that standard.

You’re morally bankrupt.

We all know what’s right and wrong. if you have to sneak to do something....or not want people to know what you’re doing....tells you all you need to know.

Sometimes it’s ok to treat black people as inferior and throw gays off of buildings.

I agree 100% with the OP. I have noticed this over my lifetime.

I noticed when Hollywood started making movies that glorified the bad guy/crook.

I noticed when people started openly talking about cheating on tax returns etc. Sure it has always gone on, but it was not something you would blurt out and expect people to agree with you.

I noticed when people started taking up for the crappy kids instead of whipping their arse for being bad at school.

I remember watching a cartoon as a kid where the babysitter was given a book on raising kids with all the new way of handling it. When the mom got home and was faced with the childs bad manners. She took the book and said your aren't using it right and proceeded to use the book too whip the brat bent over her knee.

Todays you go to jail for such things and you better believe nothing like that is in cartoons today.

I remember when both Republicans and Democrats (voters) both wanted what was best for America.

I remember in a time before lawsuits when land owners didn't care if you fished or hunted on their land if they weren't wanting it for themselves. Now even if they don't mind they won't let you for fear of lawsuits.

Those days are long gone.

As a 75 year old, I can track it pretty well: it started as soon as the parents of the Greatest Generation went out of control and the era of Big Government really began --- coincides with the economic flourishing after WWII, the Communist party's going underground and successfully dedicating itself to destruction of American Culture and our values by infecting our education system (from the top down through our Ivy League institutions) and religious structure.....and now even our Military and Government......they are winning!

Despite what you might think, he judged people on character and didn’t care about gays or skin color. In fact, he did a lot of work in GA in the 60’s and 70’s with black groups to his own peril to get different Rec Centers established in black communities.

That was back when real racism existed. Yknow...when you could get killed rather than offended because of words.

But ...to my point...doing that was the right thing to do.

Sometimes its ok to say every life is precious and stopping a beating heart is murder if you think abortion is wrong.

Sometimes you have a soldier in a war who kills another human being and stops their beating heart and is that murder?
