Places like New Orleans went all in on pushing it and encouraging it. I suspect more rural and smaller town areas, not so much.

I know a few republicans who are registered as Democrats because they live or lived in New Orleans when they registered to vote

Large numbers of conservatives in Louisiana are still registered democrat, due to that being the historical power party in the state.

Especially older people.

Not accurate. No one knows how early voters have voted. We only know which party affiliation the early voters have.

The thing to remember is that there are a ton of older people in Louisiana, especially in the rural areas, who are registered as Democrat just because that’s what everyone was around here in the 60s/70s and before who are Conservative as anyone and vote as such. Lots of those Dems ballots are Trump voters. I’m certain of it.

The rub is, that this same line of thinking also let’s people like JBE pull the wool over their eyes pretending to be the old school Southern Democrat so they don’t have to vote for the guy who calls on DC madams.

East Baton Rouge has Dems 24,533 to Repubs 12,699

So 2 parishes account for most of the difference. Orleans and East Baton Rouge.

Dems really come out to vote early.

I voted early so I would be sure my vote was counted on a voting machine.

In 2016 Democrats outpaced Republicans in early voting by 31,500 votes. Trump won LA by almost 20 points.

Early voting as a whole has become more popular nationwide. That's why I don't get all that worked up about stories talking about record early vote totals. With early voting being relatively new in most states those records don't go back that far. Of course more people are going to vote early as it becomes more popular.

Simply looking at 2016, it would be a big surprise if Democrats DID NOT "win" the early vote numbers. In fact, I suspect they might "win" the early vote significantly in light of the fact Democratic voters are the most apt to be terrified to show up in a crowd on election day due to "fear" of coronavirus.

In short, it is a good metric to watch. But I wouldn't freak out if/when Democrats "win" the early vote numbers

Honestly, a lot of older "Democrats" vote Republican 99% of the time these days.

The question is answered finding out who has to go to work and who doesn’t.
