If the US doesn't open soon, some are expecting a 30% jobless rate, roughly 100mil citizens without work.

In 2019 there were 47k suicides, I'd expect that to at least double if 100mil people are out of work.

In 2013, 2.6mil people died, 92.5% of natural causes?

US kills 1.2mil babies a year, in the last 24 hours, 1,600 people died of cancer.

I could go on but won't. I take it serious but, not to serious. Covid-19 aint the boogy man.

The country may put up with it a couple more weeks, maybe a month.

Maybe 200k die of covid.

100mil or more out of work.

People die every day is the point I'm making.

Probably a higher death rate and certainly a better economy (although now, I think a lot of people might SIP with or without govt guidelines)

I think they would not.

serious answer, nothing that isnt already happening

at worst case you might see a few dozen people die across the entire nation that may not die if everyone stays locked in their houses for another 6 months

otherwise the only thing that happens, if we end this today, is the economy and stock market recovers, and everything goes back to normal in just a few months

Sweden is a very interesting case. You can see the other side being presented here:

I hope Sweden keeps doing what they are doing as the epidemic there grows. It will give everyone a better idea of what these lockdowns are really accomplishing and let us know if we need to keep doing them or not.

Well Sweden is averaging 18 deaths per million people and we're averaging 10 per million. That should tell you something.

If we went up to the same rate (18 per million) that would be about an additional 2600 deaths. I don't know that what all we've done is near worth it for saving 2600 deaths.

that all depends on whether one your loved ones dies or not. beans don't mean much unless they're your beans.

I hope they do too. I think they'll fare pretty decently, looks like they have a healthier population than us. Their adult obesity rate is only around 13% LINK, which is much lower that ours that is around a whopping 40% (holy shite!) LINK. There's a lot of chronic conditions related to obesity, so I'm sure they're in a better position to deal with this.

There are only 160 million people in the workforce not 300+ million. Your math is a little exaggerated.

With hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin treatments being administered in the clinic setting, we could go back today

We don't have enough supplies right now though.. Will have to wait it out til the end of the month

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say...this is a true statement. No matter how much we isolate ourselves from each other, no matter how much we social distance, no matter how many medicines we take, no matter how much research is done, we are ALL GOING TO DIE...no one gets out of here alive.

If it was up to businesses and individual people, which it should be, there will be deaths of course, because there will always be people who don’t take care of themselves. But most businesses were adapting by offering curbside services and social distancing guidelines for employees and customers before cities started shutting them down. A lot of businesses closed on their own without the government. Older people are going to stay at home regardless. Most people will be smart enough who do go out to sanitize, wear gloves, or masks. But what we’re doing now is losing the country because of somewhat irrational fear.
