Well, the mute is “supposedly” only there for the first 2 minutes to let the candidates answer the question. If they mute one of the after 2 minutes, it’s gonna be bad.

Now this is interesting.
The debate rules have changed and as initially agreed to the topics were to focus on foreign policy which have now be changed to the same crappy topics as the other debates. (CV-19, Climate Change, economy, leadership)
I felt this was done to hopefully get DJT team to quit.
But your 2nd option is a good possibility. It could anger the DJT team so much that they pull out, but if they don't then they agree to this change and are boxed in a corner and can't use this subject.
The DJT team could say no to this change and force Biden to quit. That would work out good for DJT.
