A slight bump in pay and/or higher chance of being hired, I’m guessing.
Most areas which benefit from having a masters are ones where the market is so flooded with bachelor degree holders that you have to get a masters to do something in your field.
No, I understand the current game and my question wasn't really about that.
Seriously, what more can one possibly need to know about "education" that would ever justify a fricking elementary school teacher needing 6+ years of higher ed?
Some sort of testing score rating scale would be much more effective in determining the rank of incoming teachers, but we could never have that, so we create the pointless incredibly wasteful jumping through many expensive hoops framework instead. I'm not suggesting teaching is the only profession operating under this framework either.

We don't get paid all that well. I really have no clue how teachers can afford to live in larger cities.
Teachers in Birmingham Alabama make really really good money. It's pretty obscene given the test scores coming out of there.

I bet her Master's is in something like Comparitive Lit or Gender Studies.

A Masters Degree in education= $100k+ in Student Loans which are put into deferment, then into income based repayment plans which don’t cover the interest which causes the balance to never be repaid and actually increase over time.
And forgiven after five years if you work in a Title I school or 10 years if you work in any other school.

Wasn’t the Kentucky governor the one who said, “ children are being molested today because teachers didn’t show up for work”?

She should go get a real job and quit teaching. It's not fricking rocket science.
If it was only HER TURN she wouldn't be struggling so much

Well. She's in Versailles, KY which is easy enough to look up. Based on that cover, she makes more than $60K minimum.
That ain't rich but if she's donating blood to make ends meet, she's an idiot.

Must teach African American studies. She is obviously not an economics professor!

How about those 4 months of vacation & breaks?

Why did she choose a career that pays garbage money?
Posted on 9/13/18 at 1:45 pm to Eli Goldfinger
she could start with reducing her grocery bill

Higher pay from the school district. That's about it.
Some area you need a master's to be able to teach the 'gifted' classes. When I started teaching math back in 2001, I was first assigned to remedial math and algebra 1. I decided I'd get the master's for the higher pay and chance at better students. I had always loved the academic life - back in the late 50's. But I could not tolerate the Masters in Education program - it was already way too much SJW - so I quit. I soon got to teach Advanced math and Algebra II, but still could not qualify for the 'gifted' classes. No regrets - had wonderful students that I love to this day.

He may have gotten that one backwards given teacher trends.

In addition to salary, let's not forget all of the benefits.
Yes - the benefits are good, but you only get paid for the months you work. Getting the payments spread out over 12 months is an option you can select.
Now the fact that you have a 'full time job' that allows your summers free really IS a benefit - but it is not SALARY.

She should spend less than she earns each month.
She might also consider losing weight.
Buy less jewelry as well.

Fake fricking News...
LINK
Here is an article when she was hired saying how much better her life is...
I would note this is the exact same school that gave us the white guy that gained notoriety as a BLM activist.

She appears to be married. I wonder what her husband does and how many kids they have.

By "pay the bills" does she mean her 40K in credit card debt, McMansion payment, and Audi note? Not shocking Time would mislead people like this, though.
