re: What is the message from Landry's winning?

No across the board. His election portends nothing long term and he won't push forward any meaningful legislation overall. Crime rates won't necessarily go down in NOLA ,EBR or Shreveport.
Maybe you see initial positive movement in the legislature until LABI comes in and complains that you are going to "harm" business. Then just the same old same old.

The biggest message is not that Landry won, but that he won over 50% in the jungle primary.
After 8 years of a Democrat in the mansion wd saw the Dems head for the hills. No one picked up the Edwards legacy. The big money people took a hike. Wilson had no chance even though he was the only real Dem running.
Where did the Republicans for the Democrats go? Why didn’t anyone emerge to carry on JBE’s agenda? It appeared the Dems had no wolf in sheep’s clothing this time.

Then the GOP does the same thing and the democrats get elected. No one recognizes this vicious cycle?

I really wished you were trolling. But sadly, I believe your post to be amazingly accurate.

There was some clown on the OT a couple of weeks ago who was celebrating the epidemic of middle-class childlessness / unattached males because it would "relieve the population glut."
Like, oh, let's totally make policy and even embrace extinction because the stupid state highway you live on gets crowded on weekday mornings! And we'd better go ahead and fight those evil Russians / Palestinians / God only knows who else. That could really help that "population glut." You'll end up with your little Toby Keith rage boner and a great parking spot at Tractor Supply! This plan will totally work!

For me, the biggest surprise is turnout. You had roughly the same amount of votes cast for the Republican candidates in this election as the 2019 primary. The Dems, especially African American Dems, stayed home.

What is the message from Landry's winning?
That Louisiana is going to be doomed as far as pretty much all insurance and tort reform goes.

The message to me is that my source months ago was correct. The black caucus did not activate the GOTV effort for Wilson. His inability to make the runoff with a 40% turnout is eye opening. That should be a cakewalk to a runoff from a cleared field on the Democrat side.
He was not well liked during his tenure at DOTD under JBE. He was well liked by Engineering and Construction Firms. Lots of disaster and infrastructure money helps you make friends.
But those friends aren’t the types that run vans and busses on Election Day…and those friends weren’t all that enamored with Wilson in his time in the Administration. That tepid support showed yesterday in a major way.
They may blame Katie. But their vans and busses absolutely did not run.

Did black turnout in Orleans Parish actually drop off…or did the clean up of the voter rolls due to the failed Cantrell recall remove a large number of inactive voters that had previously been used to stuff the box?

Pretty much true. Make no mistake, Landry is a return to large scale corruption. I became a Republican in 1968 because of how corrupt Louisiana is, now where do I go?

The biggest message is that the LA democrat party does not currently exist as a meaningful party. It could not get a democrat into a runoff in a state full of rinos and legacy democrats. Louisiana is a solid red state with not a lot of opposition from the other side.
I think a lot of it had to do with JBE's do-nothing legacy as a two term governor, and governing directly against the will of a majority of his constituents. He has spent his final days in office trying to find a way to get monsters like Antoinette Frank off of death row.
I cannot wait until Landry takes over and all of JBE's political appointees get the boot. That will breathe new life into the state right away.

Will there now be major legislation introduced and passed that JBE was refusing to support?
Landry should sign the no kids chopping of dicks and tits bill that JBE vetoed.
So, you can put that national referendum in your pipe and smoke it.

Yep, I’ve been saying this. If Wilson would have promoted his socially conservative views & not the progressive views of the DNC, he may have had a chance.

Probably the former since EBR saw a similar drop off.

Shawn Wilson and the Democrat Party had almost zero ground game. Really amazing considering they had a far superior local ground game in 2015 and 2019.
Maybe they assumed there would be a runoff? Maybe the DNC and LA Democrat Party leadership and money people knew that was zero chance that a socially and fiscal leftist like Shawn Wilson could ever win a statewide campaign in Louisiana and didn’t want to waste resources.
