The two competing value systems are 'equality' and 'freedom'. You can't have both. They are polar opposite. Every move by govt to increase equality decreases some freedom.
On a personal level men tend naturally toward freedom while women tend naturally toward equality. That's why more women are Dems and more men are GOP.

What is the main issue that divides Reps and Dems?
Both sides thinking they're right about everything and virtually everything their side does is right and everything the other side does is wrong with no middle ground.

Adherence to Judeo-Christian values and non-adherence.

Except that every time this strategy is implemented job number increase, wages rise, 401K’s benefit, and GDP increases at good to great numbers.
Every time the country shifts away from this strategy unemployment/job participation rises, financial security and optimism decreases, and people start taking less money for the security of long term employment.

Immigrants getting something for nothing while i have to wake my arse up at 6 am everyday to head up to Jonesboro; doing the drywall on the new McDonalds up there.
The taking of innocent life through abortion. We think were so advanced in the modern age but were no better than ancient peoples throwing babies in volcanoes or sacrificing them to metal gods.

Tell me what judeo Christian value was trump adhering to when he was parading his pregnant mistress around when he was still married.

Patriarchy?
ETA
I know you didn’t bring up the Judeo Christian values comment, but I do find it funny that for as long as I can remember I’ve been told by progressives to keep my religion out of politics, and so when conservatives finally vote for a candidate that doesn’t fit their morality, progressives scream, why didn’t you adhere to your morality!?!?!?

How much control the government has .

I've thought about this a lot the past 3-4 years and it's pretty simple......the conservatives in the Republican Party want to preserve an America that continues to nurture the "American Spirit". The American Spirit is what this great country was founded on. The American Spirit is the driving force behind our success as a country, at our core we believe in freedom of the individual to persue their passions and dreams and in doing so we believe the country will continue to prosper.
The Dim Party is trying it's damndest to destroy the American Spirit!!

free market capitalism and individual responsibility vs. socialism and no personal accountability

Hoping for a trickle down from billionaires has shown is not a viable strategy. The economy is set up for the rich and to make life easier for them. If you're a millionaire it's way easier to get that 2nd million. If you're on the bottom it's incredibly difficult to dig out of that hole. Instead of taking a pay cut and slightly hurting their fortune, they'd rather fire people to keep their bonus. Having these rich people essentially sit on their money and keep increasing their value is like a parasite on America.
LMAO I swear you guys say this stuff so much that you actually believe it.

Abortion
Many republicans and some Democrats are against it, but it isn't going anywhere. Promises have been made, but it will never change...and republicans would be wise to keep this on the back burner.

Good one, although a lot of Democrats (probably Trump voters now) are against nonsensical gun control. Democrats would be wise to shut up about this one. None of their proposals seem to be rooted in fact - and all seem to be aimed towards law abiding citizens. Gun control appears to be more of a typical progressive totalitarian power grab than a safety push. Democrats would win more elections if they dropped this.

Illegal immigration
This is one I don't understand. Obama and Clinton both supported funding for border wall rebuilds and expansion when they were senators. The Democratic party evolved very quickly on this one, and I'm not so sure that most actual Democrats are supportive of amnesty and "almost" open borders like some of their high profile candidates. I think Trump proved in 2016 that there is a big gap between the voters and their government (particularly Democrats in office) on border security and immigration.

LGBTQ
Settled issue, and a lot of republicans support gay marriage. Republicans need to STFU about this. I think they are against the tide on this, and gay marriage is basically here to stay. Stoke this fire occasionally to force Democrats into talking about just enough to piss off African American voters. Otherwise, republicans should back off and should not attempt to curb gay marriage - there would be a huge backlash.

Social programs spending
Agree. Democrats have largely never met a spending bill they didn't like when it comes to social programs. There isn't a shortage of bullshite programs republicans like too - part of it seems to be because so many people in the political world are "ambitious enough for the private sector, but too lazy to find success there". They all try to make their mark by pushing for something, then hope to move up before it fails.
