What was our interest in France in the 1940's?

That ship sailed when the community organizer let Russia take Crimea without doing a damned thing.

Our promise to guarantee their independence if they gave up their nuclear weapons. They gave up their nukes based on our promise, but now there are some who were probably not born yet who think our promise shouldn't be kept.

Follow the money.
Don’t let em bullshite you with the “fighting for democracy” nonsense.
Hell, most of Western Europe is barely hanging on to it themselves and we are just one election of a batshite Dem or squishy RINO Pub back in the WH away from being back in, both feet first into the arse backwards, convoluted mess ourselves.

It saddens me with so much access to information in this modern age, the population is actually LESS informed.
The fact the average American can’t list even a few reasons why we should support Ukraine is concerning.
1. Countering Russian aggression and maintaining global stability.
2. Upholding international law and sovereignty of nations.
3. Strengthening NATO alliances and European security.
4. Preventing authoritarian expansion and protecting democratic values.
5. Securing economic interests, including energy and trade

Like a lot of shitty things America does, it started out as a noble effort. Our infrastructure for resisting Communism was repurposed, after the fall of the USSR, into kicking out the authoritarians who filled the void left by Communism, and installing democracies. This was laudable.
Very quickly a business ecosystem grew up around these efforts. Multi-national American companies in energy, agriculture, pharma, and military industries grafted onto this. The US would take over media and lead the movement for democracy, but we would end up with US puppets like Zelenski. Part of the deal was that the client (victim?) country would give rights to these American companies. So these companies ended up with rights to agricultural land, minerals, and MIC contracts to supply the new government with the NATO compliant weapons they needed.
In due time, as the politicians got in on the graft, the business ecosystem became the driving force, replacing the original idealogical reasons. The whole thing became a series of taxpayer provided subsidies for big mult-nationals.
There is another component, that Soros and his ilk grabbed the reins and tried to push their civilization-killing amorality onto these nations. As they developed their skills of insidiously dominating a country’s media and culture, they (and this is the particular genius of George Soros) began to turn that great force against the United States itself, as well as the UK and other Western European countries.
This is where Trump found us - accidentally, I believe. If they had only let Trump win in 2024 they could have waited him out. But probably Soros was impatient to see the fruits of his great handiwork before he died, and they did whatever they did to deprive Trump of his next term and infuriate him. This was to our everlasting advantage as we see playing out.
At least this is what I have surmised.

It's a giant CIA base next to Russia.

A geographic vector to Russia in hopes to Balkanize Russia and then bleed its resources dry. That’s the NATO vision. We just lack the planning and execution.
If that was anywhere approaching the goal, it would have happened three decades ago when the Europeans were actually capable of fighting a war.

If Russia takes over Ukraine, that takes out a considerable buffer for Europe and they don’t want that
Europeans are very nervous about Putin making advancements in their direction

I mean they actively and knowingly fund/support countries like Iran, Syria, North Korea, etc, who fund some Islamic whackos, and cause other forms of instability in other regions. All to disrupt us. And this has been going on for years and years. But yes, let’s continue to act like Russia isn’t a foe and is a great partner to the US and our interests.
