Yeah that guy seemed oddly triggered. I didn’t read anything into the OP that seemed to indicate a gripe about testing.

Same with me and a co-worker. Mine began in January and I still have it. No nasal/URI symptoms, just chest congestion. I’m 54 and have never had anything like it in my life.

The wife and I were talking about this. My son had a fever and flu like symptoms for a week but it wasn’t flu or strep. Then she got it. Then me. We’re all stocked up on antibodies now.

In late november/December (at least in NOLA), there was a spike of fevers and cold like symptoms at many pediatrician offices. Many of the tests for the flu came back negative...

Me..dry cough, tight chest, shortness of breath, 2 doctors visits, x-ray showed no pneumonia, flu swab negative.
Late January to mid February.

I am a Nurse

A friend at UAB saw this in late December/ early January and they were calling it flumaggedon because it was overwhelming in the ER and all these strange pulmonary cases were flu negative.

I’ve had several people including RNs give accounts of the same symptoms over the same timeframe that tested negative for flu. Any of you experienced this?

Yes. It’s been here since October. My SO is a Dr and today in fact she and her colleagues pulled charts to compare those that tested negative for flu back then and cases now that are believed to be a positive COVID -19 case. The symptoms are the same.

I had dry cough pretty bad several weeks back and was experiencing shortness of breath. This went on for around a week. I don't know if it was the Chinese virus, but that did occur.

Somebody posted a graph on here the other day showing the extreme spike in flu-negative respiratory illnesses during this time period compared to other years.

The lack of outbreaks in nursing homes and cruises prior to the Hubei outbreak would seem to argue against it running through our communities earlier than the Wuhan outbreak.

Quite identical to my own thoughts. It's one thing to between you and your doc to sorta blow off obviously having the flu but testing negative for the flu. I guess they give you tamiflu anyway? Anyhow, the average person fights it off eventually one way or another. Not uncommon probably.

But when it hits nursing homes.....what we know now is that there would be a markedly higher death rate of the elderly for what appears to be the flu, but negative on all present tests. That would surely kick something into action to figure that out with the quickness.

My dad, late 50’s, was experiencing some flu/rona type symptoms but never tested positive for the flu. Coughing, fatigue, random fevers, etc. He was in and out a crappy feeling for the better part of a month. This happened right around thanksgiving and ended around Christmas. Nobody really knows what it was but now it seems like he could have been a possible rona-ite.

I had an aunt get tested 2 days ago because she has feeling like death and was in Seattle not too long ago. Tested negative for the rona but now has bronchitis.

I had a respiratory illness of some kind last summer that I got on a cruise ship in Alaska. It’s the only time I’ve ever been out of work for more than a day for something other than the flu. I tested negative for the flu and I was shocked. They gave me an inhaler and some hardcore antihistamines and it eventually went away. It was odd because I would get over it and it would flare up. The flu isn’t like that. It’s just pure hell until it leaves your system which is usually pretty quick.

Yes!!! My son who is a marine and finished a deployment on a navy ship (USS Boxer) told me he was so sick at the end of January he though he was dying. He’s 20. He has never in his life asked to go to the doctor due to being sick and said he went to the ER on base bc he felt so bad. He’s fine now. He tested negative for the flu at the ER and went back to Camp Pendleton and rested for days until he felt well enough to return to his job. His ship sailed to the ME and then made numerous stops including Thailand and Okinawa, Japan on their way home. He arrived in San Diego around thanksgiving. He reported MANY got very sick on deployment, but he didn’t get sick until long after.
