If one were to conjure an image that represented the conservative movement, it would be a group of middle-aged white guys grinning like chimps while standing in front of an empty trophy case. Conservatism has become a mystery cult that champions people like Mitt Romney and makes the “conservative case” for the latest progressive cultural fads.

quote:

They did not get what they wanted from Reagan but were told it was because the Democrats controlled Congress. In the 1990s, they put the Republicans in charge of Congress. When that did not work, they were told it was because a Democrat was in the White House.

quote:

Finally, at the turn of the century the dream was realized. Conservatives controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House. Not only was Bush a conservative, but he was also an evangelical Christian who liked to talk about Jesus in public. The great fusion of cultural and economic conservatives had been made real. The result, however, was the complete opposite of everything middle-class whites had been told about conservatism.

The author asks, what happens when people no longer believe their vote matters? That the whole system, from the financial markets, to the politics, to the rule of law, is rigged against them?

What happens if Conservatives turn off the news and start living their lives again?

I've barely turned on the news since Christmas and I don't miss it one bit. I wouldn't hear half the shite going on if everyone didn't come to TD and bitch about it.

Well this conservative will never vote for another conservative that won’t fight for conservative beliefs and against crooked elections.

W did more damage to this country and conservatism than any other person in modern American history.

The effects will be damaging for generations, maybe forever.

This conservative will make it a point to vote against every incumbent henceforth whatever the race.

Democrats let me down.
Republicans let me down.

Only difference is that Democrats are honest about it, while Republicans lie to my face.

The only answer: make every politician a one term "public servant."

I've been mulling this exact chain of thoughts since the election. We've been on a progressive slide for 100+ years. Conservatives have nothing to show. When was the last time the budge was even mentioned? Leadership in the republican party have shown they do not care about their base. So where do I take my vote?

I think we’ve crossed that bridge. The real question is what happens if conservatives quit shouldering the load for a system rigged against everything they stand for?

God forbid 45% of the country is featured in one article. I know you’re used to MSM which acts like the 15% is actually 65%
