I think the big difference is in college graduates. In the 60s I encountered a LOT of stupid 20-somethings. But not a single stupid one with a degree.

I've watched a lot of Peter Boghossian videos on college campus. These are not interviews. They are extemporaneous 20 minute debates. A lot of the students already have a degree and are working on a masters. They are not so much low IQ as they are totally ignorant of almost everything, including their major.

Just spend some time on the street dealing with the public. You will lose all hope for humanity.

Just watched the first video….my 9 year old knows every single one of those answers.

It’s incredibly sad that these “adults” don’t know these and that they are laughing at their own ignorance. They should be embarrassed, not think it’s funny.

ok, there's a difference between 16 and 6.

at that age, you're supposed to be thinking of the opposite sex in terms of dating and relationships.

That's what I mean. My son went from laughing at them to being genuinely stunned that it wasn't a set-up and was real.

Bamarep has been telling y'all for years the average walking around American is functionality retarded.
Bamarep and Hank are in solid agreement on this point.

These videos are entertaining, but it would be interesting to know how many hours of interaction it takes to find this level of stupidity.

i ran all three videos by my 15 and 13 yo.

they were about 90+%

only thing that goofed them up was year we were founded. they thought 1780 something. i'd accept 1776 or 1789.

they just said "us" to the civil war. technically correct, but not very nuanced.

in the last month i've had some good conversations with well meaning liberals/progressives. One at a 7/4 bbq and a couple at a conference with some work peers at dinner.

At the BBQ, the guy is a friend, and we know we're both on the opposite sides of just about every issue, but we have always had a rational debate. he had smoked a bunch of weed before coming over and went straight into the 2 SCOTUS rulings he didn't like as soon as he saw me.

on the WV v EPA, he said " the SC just totally nuked the EPA and dissolved them." I replied, "no they didn't, they just said the EPA can't unilaterally make laws." "it's the same thing. Trump ruined us with these SC picks. They just made it legal to pollute without any reprecussions."

i composed myself and said "Say that Trump was in office and running the EPA. Do you want his handpicked people running the EPA to be able to do whatever they want without any legislative input?"

"we already had that and it was awful."

"so you're saying that you'd rather law come from elected officials, good or bad, than an agency picked by somebody you don't like?"

"yes. exactly."

"that's exactly what the ruling did. it said that an unelected official can't make laws regarding a state and that any sort of cap on emissions has to come from an actual elected body, not an agency. you just don't like it because it limits a group you like. you'd be totally happy if the exact same thing happened to an agency Trump was in charge of 3 years ago. EPA should exist but it should recommend legislation, not set law."

i saw his brain reboot in real time.

________

next conversation at a conference. a peer was talking about running in the woods around Zilker park and dodging "people experiencing homelessness" (his words, not mine.)

i asked if it had gotten worse after the public camping ban.

he said yes, the ban just makes it to where people don't see the problem but it still exists. i mentioned that i heard Mayor Adler's interview on Rogan and he said the same thing and i tended to agree.

i mentioned that i'm really compassionate to that and definitely support some housing to get people off drugs and help with mental health.

he said "drugs aren't the problem, it's cost of living." i casually said, i think the amount of people that are homeless that have missed paychecks is less than 10%. Drugs and mental health are probably 60-80%.

he said that's false. i pulled up 5 or 6 studies that all said the same thing. he said it's not true at all and 99% of these homeless (dammit, people experiencing homelessness...) were that way because of economic policies that caused it. I said, "i really don't think you can find any study that will reflect that. an overwhelming people that (pause, collect myself) are experiencing homelessness are due to drug addiction and mental health. i'm not saying i'm uncompassionate to those people, far from it. They're children of God and i'm not opposed to welfare helping them, it just needs to attack the root cause and not give permanent housing to people that aren't going to stop using drugs."

"well we'd be wasting our time, because drugs and mental health aren't the issue."

________

completely oblivious to fact and unwavering despite concrete evidence.

two really wild experiences.

tl;dr. i had two conversations with progressives that refused to accept facts and/or understand how laws work.

I think George Carlin said, paraphrased, “think of the average person you interact with and realize that half the country is dumber than that.

Yes, I hear you. I worked as a bank manager years ago and it was bad then. So thankful every single day that I work behind the scenes and don't have to deal with people every day.

So, you showed our friend documentation supporting the facts as you had outlined them to him, and he continued to cling to his position, rooted entirely in emotions and preconceptions.

That must have been frustrating.
