Hunger is an amazing motivator. Just like a band aid, 90% of all welfare should just be ripped off and discontinued and you will be amazed at how many hungry people will have to figure out how to make money and take care of themselves.

Subtract this from your salary and divide by hourly and that's what you REALLY make per year.

Welfare is just a bribe to keep the barbarians from storming the gate.

First OP... great post.

But you start with a false premise ---

quote:

TLDR: We could balance our budget if we transition half of our welfare recipients to working a job. Even if we cut our welfare recipients in half, we would still have 5 times as many people on welfare as Canada does, per capita.

The legislative and executive branches of government would love to spend more. In three years it would be worst it is now.

I understand people might need some help but it should be for short periods of time. Maybe 3 years over their lifetime, with maybe 6 months at a time.

It should be a helping hand not a way of life. There are people living around my farm in very rural Alabama (140 people living within a 10 mile area) who HAVE NEVER HAD A JOB. Im talking about 70 year old people who have only ever received a government check. Thats unbelievable.

I also think that instead of food stamps being for 80% of stuff in the grocery store it should not allow for prepared (boxed foods). It should only be for meats, vegetables and dairy. Nobody should be able to buy crab legs with food stamps.

Key world being "could". I never said this would balance the budget.

Food Stamps are welfare for the Ag and food industries first, and nutrition for humans second, and abused by both parties.

Does this count all the people getting disability for each child with depression, ADHD, etc?

Imagine how much less tax payers would have to pay if our federal government stopped spending trillions of dollars on other "welfare" items like aid to the states, compensation to unnecessary federal employees, government contracts to private parties, and subsidies to private parties.

I have a cousin who is on disability for being fat. no shite he gets 1200 a month for being fat and is 54 and couldn't be happier. Welfare is a mindset, until you focus on the mindset of people they will always take the welfare.

Where are you getting these numbers?

Here is the 2023 Federal Budget
LINK

Page 14 - Congress just slashed total federal entitlements (Income Security Programs) from $576m in 2022 to $416m in 2023.

Food assistance is $127b and unemployment is $27b
for 65m people on welfare that's actually (minus the government and state administrative expenses) less than $150/month

And $48b of this is for foster care. You want to ban abortion (because life is a gift from god) but when kids are born you want to complain about paying a meager sum to take care of them? How is that not predictable.

Edit - WAIT you are including Health Care in this? I know lots of people enrolled in the AMA because their employer does not provide health care - or they have a preexisting condition or are disabled and cannot get regular insurance. I wouldn't group that as welfare.

Well GOP would loose a huge block of rural white voters if welfare recipients weren’t allowed to vote, so go for it

We have people living in 6 and 7 generations of welfare.

They don’t have a job, their parents didn’t work, their grandparents didn’t work, their kids won’t work, and their grandkids won’t work.
Ridiculous. .
