Let’s revisit this thread and see what happens. I bet you that our hospitals will not be overwhelmed

I'd happily lose that bet.

I'll note that just today we are clearly turning a corner supersizing our mitigation efforts. We've tested more people than all other days combined and all across the country, large events have been canceled. Which is to say we're beginning to act like the countries that are ahead of this thing and less like Italy.

I hope you are right, and I'm not very worried for me and my family, but we do have a lot of Old Folks in the country that might have problems.
Here where I live, we only have a very small hospital, I would be surprised if they have more than 30 beds, and a lot of old people.

As of today, a healthy 25 year old with a cough and fever who has normal vital signs is going to be discharged from the emergency department in 99% of the cases (particularly if they have a normal chest x-ray and normal vitals). Even if they have presumptive pneumonia on chest x-ray, an abnormal CBC, and a fever they are probably going to be discharged based on the recommendation of something like the CURB65 score with an RX for outpatient antibiotics.

Yep. Paper-pushing Admin. You are still a sick person.

Alternatively, we can just do nothing because this is just the flu...

Not as bad as the flu, even.

If a patient needs mechanical ventilation, which many who catch this virus do, your suggested course of treatment is a waste of perfectly good Robitussin since the patient will very swiftly die.

Define 'many'...

Observations after 11 days.

It is bad.

It has put a strain on our medical system.

We have not been overwhelmed.

ETA -since I am not a member of the media, this was a was obviously a bump for discussion concerning reassessed timelines...
not a "gotcha!"

Liberals and their media are hollering about tests now and not the death rate anymore because they want people including those with mild symptoms to bombard the hospitals to break the national healthcare infrastructure. Liberals want chaos so they can benefit by having a Democrat win the Presidential election.

Feel like I've heard for 2 weeks that we're "10-15 days behind Italy". People are still saying that.

The idea that there is going to be widespread chaos and millions of people in the hospital seems incredibly far fetched at this point, though I think a few select urban areas are probably going to struggle.

Exactly. 11 days ago, we were 10 days behind Italy. Today, we are somehow 8 days behind them.

Was it because of the toilet paper crisis of 2020?

Mostly the overblown media. And then natural selection...when it's time to go, it's time to go.
