quote:

The volunteers wave Islamic Republic flags as they head toward the Strait of Hormuz in small civilian-style craft, an extraordinary spectacle for a government that spent decades portraying itself as a dominant naval power.

But this is largely propaganda theater.

Nobody seriously expects fishermen and Basij volunteers in basic motorboats to confront U.S. military vessels and warships. The exercise is designed to manufacture an image of mass mobilization and defiance for domestic consumption.

Instead, the spectacle accomplishes the exact opposite. Trump has said Iran has no navy anymore, and footage of flag-waving volunteers being sent out in fishing boats and cheap speedboats reinforces just how badly the Islamic Republic’s conventional naval power has deteriorated.

For a regime that spent decades boasting about dominating the Persian Gulf and confronting the U.S. Navy, its own propaganda has become an advertisement for its weakness.

Yeah some terrorist wannabes with trolling motors are spooky

The moves we've been making in the strait are good. Keep the bluster of "we have a deal this week!" put away and keep the pressure on.

Just hang out and they will come. A very efficient way to weed out the fanatics. A handful of Drone Boats with AI and a 50 cal. automatic will leave what is left swimming back to shore.

They get an A on allegiance to their Cause. If I believed what they do, I would hope to do the same. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut here or there.

So the Iranian version of the Cajun navy is keeping strait traffic to a trickle of prewar levels.

Seems like the fools would take a 'Deal' and just sit on it and watch Europe go Islam. With the USA not far behind, minus some radical redirection of National Policy; I.e., NO Islam here, which would be Constitutionally anti-thetical.

Quite a dilemma.

This is incorrect.

That was a one time surge conducted by ship to ship connectors skirting the southern coast of Oman. It is NOT a daily occurrence. In fact, the daily average of oil transiting the strait is still 3-7 million bpd. The flow of oil is still at a trickle.

We need to be blasting those little boats to Kingdom Come, just for the Hell of it.

We need to have our ships in the strait and our troops on the islands in the strait.

Who sent them those boats? Who venomed them to buy them? Obama helped them build up a navy, now they have this.

Iran captured our sailors by gun point. when it happened it was reported that when someone informed CIC Obama about this, he laughed, maybe in disbelief--but he was our worst President next to LBJ.

They're fishing boats. They've had fishing boats there for thousands of years.

I agree about Obama though.

I realize that but I was more thinking even their fishing boats were taken out in the beginning of the conflict, and they had to buy/be gifted with more.

That may be a part of their livelihood so fair point on your part....

There a probably more than 10-20k fishing boats in Iran. We only strike the ones we suspect of conducting military activities.
