I'm guessing those countries declined his generous offer? And we think we are smarter...

In their defense, sending them to Haiti was the dumbest idea ever, and by the time of the Civil War almost no US slaves even came from Africa directly, the trade had been eliminated decades before. They were multi generational American slaves and even going back generations, most came out of the Caribbean and not directly to the US from Africa.

The few that did go to Liberia when we set it up were essentially ran out of power/town on a rail because they had nothing in common with actual Africans.

No.. it wasn't about slavery. That was just a mere part and catalyst.

If the South had won, Louisiana would not be taking orders from Joe Biden.

States right to govern itself.

Secession was 100% a direct result of the institution of slavery.

What in the actual frick? States seceded peacefully from the Union. Had they been allowed to continue, they would have eventually freed the slaves, as every other nation on the planet did, without bloodshed

Ole Abe wanted blood. And he got it. Lots of it

The Morrill Tariff was passed in the House in May 1860.

In 1860, about 95% of US government revenue was raised by a tariff on imported goods. Over 85% of US tariff revenue came from the South before the Morrill Tariff. In turn, 80% of these tax revenues were used in the North.

for what it’s worth, i have read hundreds of letters written by the soldiers who fought in the war. these are letters written to family and loved ones, from both union and confederate soldiers , and slavery is NEVER mentioned. NOT ONCE. Anyone can go online and read these letters. talk about a great piece of our history!! But no one mentions slavery.

Was the United States worth fighting for then?

Again just lines on paper according to you.

You realize that you flip flip back over yourself time and time again.

This is just another version of women have penises... because I want to believe that and my social media believes that.

Are you drunk?

Washington was forming a new nation within the lines of an existing nation. Thats what Jeff Davis was doing too. By the time Washington took on the Brits, even the King no longer called them Brits
quote:

“if the American Colonies began to slip away, it’s the beginning of the end of the British Empire,”

Empire building. Same philosophy as Abe Lincoln, isnt it?

And by imaginary lines, it means lines that encompass a map of England, and then are erased to encompass America. Lines that separated America from France were easily erased after the Louisiana purchase. Same for Texas and the War with Mexico. Both used to create new American lines, whereas Napoleon didnt kill anyone over his lines, Mexico however did

You might want to research what happened at Ft Sumter. A piece of land donated to the Fed, but rescinded upon secession. The Union Army snick into it, and seized it during a time of no hostilities

The fort was fired upon, as any nation would do. And then the Union tried to resupply the fort in Confederate territory

It had nothing to do with Slavery, that was an expedient excuse as to why the yanks killed 50K women and children. The Hague was set up because of those atrocities. For starters, the States were independent states that joined a union to fight off England, the people of each state should have the right to self autonomy.

The reason the yanks wanted the south to stay was we had the back belt and its wealth, and they wanted to "steal our products" via taxation. They were paying for their bridges et al on our backs. Lincoln was the worst president ever, he could not bring the nation together, and as soon as he won he started talking crap, poking the south in the eye so to speak. God, in my mind, put this tyrant firth to keep us together because He foresaw Hitler and as a protectant hedge for Israel. Providence is providence.

But to call Lincoln a great man makes me laugh. The Emancipation Proclamation didn't even free the "Northern Slaves" (LOL) because it was a desperate war time strategical ploy. They knew blacks in the south would join them and fight if they offered they freedom. So, this so called great man left slavery alone in the north, not much of a real man was he.

Meh, it’s tough when I think about my own GGG Grandfather who was a member of the 18th Alabama Infantry, fought at Shiloh and Chickamauga where he was wounded and died the next spring in a Confederate hospital from his wounds.

He never owned a slave. The 18th Alabama were known as the Coosa Farmers, mostly poor whites who share cropped cotton, raised pigs and chickens, had a milk cow and a garden.

It’s hard for me to believe that hundreds of thousands of men just like him, left their homes solely to defend an institution that didn’t benefit them personally.

It was about state's rights and in the south that include slavery.

If SC had not of left the Union, others likely would not have either. They had always been the hothead, and had been threatening for a few years.

What is happening in at least 16 states right now?

Sanctuary policies that ignore Federal Law.

Another form of secession.

Cut all Federal funding.

Democrats scream all the time that secession ended after the Civil War. Not a law on the books, they gave it another name.

Every year or two when this subject is introduced in a new thread, I, and others here, are astounded and amazed, but never surprised, at the lack of historical knowledge and facts concerning the Uncivil War.

+1

But the overwhelming amount of posters parroting "slavery" just goes to show how strong the government propaganda has been to divert attention away from what is supposed to be the States' ultimate and final action as a check on a runaway, oppressive Federal Government.
