I understand why Germany feels NATO is important. I get that completely. They have the umbrella protection of the United States and the UK covering their asses. We here in the States however really don't need NATO. I'm OK with staying in NATO but our fee should be waived.

They have had high gas prices forever.
There are 3.8 liters to a gallon.
They sell gas by the liter.

So they are paying $35 - $40 per gallon? if so, did you break it down to him that way, so he understands better? That we are paying ~$1.30-.35/liter to their $10/liter. But hey it pays for all their social programs.
Would be interesting to find out his thoughts on all the non-Germans they have been importing over the years.
