Unfortunately Trump is about to have it handed to him by the courts.
Theres no right to a press pass or media access. However once you allow the media in, you can’t selectively choose who gets in because you don’t like their coverage.
That’s viewpoint discrimination. The First Amendment’s core rule is that the state may not punish speech because of its message. Trump’s stated reason, “negative stories” and “I don’t have to let them into the people’s house,” is almost a textbook admission of that.

They’re punishing free speech because the ban is because of the reporting, not a content-neutral space, security, or logistics rule applied to everyone.
The government can’t use official access as a prize for friendly coverage, and a penalty for unfriendly coverage.
