Retaliation for protected speech. Newsgathering and publication are protected activity. Using government power (revoking credentials, denying physical access that other similarly situated reporters still have) to punish that activity is treated as unconstitutional retaliation.
Limited/nonpublic forum rules. The White House briefing room and press pool are not public parks, but they are government-created forums for a specific class of speakers (credentialed journalists). When the government creates such a forum, exclusions must be viewpoint-neutral and reasonable. Arbitrary or content-based exclusion fails that test.
