"Your loans will be completely forgiven regardless of income, and even if you didn't graduate."

Vice President's entire speech in Philadelphia today

President Biden: "I'm proud to announce five major actions to continue to relieve student debt for more than 30 million Americans. Starting this Fall, we plan to deliver up to $20,000 in interest relief for over 20 million borrowers and full forgiveness for millions more"

Can't wait to apply my tax credit for the student loans I paid back.

Blatant vote buying.

What if you've already paid them back? We talking reimbursing those people?

Is the government still making new student loans? If so, why? If they’re going to be forgiven let’s just stop making them.

Must be awesome using other people’s money to pay for this.

Never mind…..we’re running a deficit.

This effort by the Dims will be shot down if it makes it to Supreme Court.

But that won't matter. The people they're pandering to for votes don't know that yet, they just hear "free stuff" and know who they're voting for.

they did. and the Biden admin knows it. but the timing was off. they know this try will be struck down as well. So they are talking another bite at the apple in hopes of pissing off people that make poor financial decisions a little closer to the election.

Shouldn't it be the schools that have to pay the money back to the students they ripped off?

Oh, they get to keep the money, and I get to pay the money back.

This isn't the poli board so I don't want to be too political, but just so people understand - this has been the plan all along. When this was first done, it was implemented with a strategy they knew would fail but help them in the midterms. There are some left leaning youtube channels that discussed this. There are some statutes out there that give the power to the Secretary of Education to waive / forgive these loans - the people advocating for this were extremely angry with Biden for not going down that road and instead picking a losing path that the courts would shoot down. This was done so they could come back for this November election and wipe them all away. It's vote buying and cements a trillion or more into our debt that may have been slowly paid off over time. By the way, we are paying more than a trillion per year just on interest for our debt.
