I'm not gonna pretend to know the details of it but seems to me if federal law passed by congress enabled them to be forgiven then they'd be forgiven without any additional action taken by the current admin

There are a lot of different mechanics they could try to use so it’s hard to know much when there’s just a campaign video for details.

Honestly, if they went the route of long term tax rebates they would have a good chance of getting it to stick. There’s a pretty solid history of those standing. Especially if it’s capped at something reasonable so it doesn’t have huge budget impacts.

There are methods that they could use through the Dept of Education and they know fully well but will work and what won't. The executive order was just a political stunt since even hardcore dems knew that it wouldn't make it through the Supreme Court but it worked for them since they could blame the MAGA court for keeping them from forgiving the loans.

Just imagine how much colleges are going to be able to charge now when people don’t think they will ever have to repay them

The government getting involved in the loans is what created this bubble in the first place. A serious bank or institution wouldn’t lend 300k to some shitbrain for a liberal arts degree when they know they will just end up a barista. Only the government would make those loans.

They promised this before and couldn’t deliver. Just trying to buy votes again. Any successful cancellations so far only includes those whom fit into a specific category. The average person isn’t gonna qualify.

This is absolutely out of control. They are doing anything to win. I'm surprised they don't just pull their junk out and flash it to everyone swinging it around and do a porno.
This should be illegal. Why don't the tax payers have any say as to where our fricking money goes. Its going to foreign countries and monkey sex experiments. I've about had it with these disgusting dirty democrats. And the Republicans aren't that much better. These people need to get the frick on.
If you cannot see through the blantant bullshite that these demons do while in power, you don't deserve to have a say on shite. These people are fricking monsters. Our country is arse backwards and getting worse, as if that's possible. I refuse to give it up like half the diseased minds in this country have. So much needs to change. Our country is being destroyed from the inside out.

That's what nobody is talking about. How does this address the root problem? It's just kicking an even worse can down the road. And what happens to all of the future college students who are going to see these inflationary college costs balloon even more? Oh, well, screw 'em because they aren't old enough to vote this November anyway. I hope their parents are taking notes.

Based on what I've read this is more of the same, it's all smoke and mirrors. They're using programs already on the books and calling it loan forgiveness for headlines.

And he knows he can't do that, the Supreme Court has already said so. It's just a headliner to try and sway the young folk.

Darn, I'm about to pay mine off this week. Maybe I should wait around a while longer so the government can do it for me instead.

Current plan is have to have made 120 payments. If you’ve made that many payments you’ve definitely paid back your balance. Seems like these new actions aren’t that scandalous either. Just all hype.

Student loans aren’t longer than 10yrs, are they?

I think if they are forgiven you have to pay taxes on them.
