Cruz said the detainment of Cory B. Alvarez, who was slated to appear in court on Tuesday, was “unbeknownst” to his office.
Alvarez was in the United States as part of the Biden administration’s Humanitarian Parole Program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans Program, according to Cruz’s office. As part of his criminal case, prosecutors have “repeatedly asked questions” about the specifics of the program but have “received little to no answers”
