Government is a gun. The best way to keep someone from shooting it at people is to take its bullets away. The same government that gives you power over others can give others power over you. The obvious solution is to make government small and weak enough that its power is limited and cannot be easily abused. A strong government will never stay in the same hands forever. You might wield it one day only to have it turned on you. The solution is to make that gun as harmless as possible so that it’s not too dangerous to be pointed at you.

I completely agree that if BLM protested a Trump win at the Capitol in the same way, conservatives would have called them terrorists and said "play stupid games..." The flip side is the press would have covered for them as a "mostly peaceful protest," no one would be prosecuted, and there would be marches for someone killed in the same fashion as Ashli Babbitt.

Democrats did and do protest at the capitol constantly. The protests during the Kavinaugh confirmation hearings in particular were far more raucous than 1/6.

This is like listening to some lefty worry aloud that we're one election away from A Handmaid's Tale thanks to the right, while simultaneously ignoring that we are currently in the prequel to 1984 run by the left.
None of this is new...we watched it in real time last summer as they stood in front of actual roaring fires and declared them mostly peaceful protests or the literal taking by force of multiple city blocks for 10+ days as a summer of love, then a few months later declaring what took place or January 6th to be the biggest a front to democracy in the modern world and a clear insurrection attempt.

95% of the population is Authoritarian, maybe more. They just differ in how they want the authority to control those that disagree with them. It is quite sad really.
