It's not as if this has not happened to Obama, Clinton and others. We will live through it if it happens. Soon, and I hope really soon republicans will start their exploratory campaigns. They will need two years to craft a message.
Problem is if democrats replace republicans in Texas, Ohio and North Carolina, you won't be able to pull them out of office with a chain and bulldozer. Case in point is Georgia which flipped to two dems. Talarico will be there for the long run if he pulls it off.
Paxton is a pretty pathetic candidate. He just expected to win because Texas is red, no work needed. Maybe not so red anymore.

People, generally, see the issue very different ways. Now, I will admit since 2016 you'll see a lot more "social" characterization. We just had the multiple threads about the Indian students to show that.
