So why the frick is this such a problem and why would the Supreme Court rule against it?
If this wouldn't actually accomplish anything, and would just cost states more money to implement, why are you in favor it? States would still determine who gets the ballots, they would just need to create or buy special envelopes to give to the same voters who would have gotten the other envelopes.
ETA The Court did not rule that this policy is substantively unlawful. It declined to stay a preliminary injunction and let the policy take effect immediately.

If the instructions for the post office are to mail something to John Doe 123 Mainstreet how are they to know if it is to an illegal?

You really want to know why Trump tried this? I can tell you it's not about voter fraud. Been proven time and again if it happens at all it's miniscule and doesn't impact actual results.
Let me ask a question. When is the last time the GOP had a convention for the midterms? One. This year. In Texas. Who has a first time ever convention during a midterm year in a supposed to be Republican hot bed? People who are losing.
The numbers are not good. Judging by how much ridicule Trump is getting on this board these days, it tracks.
The changes Trump was trying to implement would have been an excuse to throw out thousands of legitimate votes in an effort to improve the numbers. They were going to batch them, and if just one name didn't match, they would throw out the whole batch, something like 10,000 votes. Even if it's just a mistake on the voter rolls/name change/etc. Doesn't have to be an illegal, could be grandma's writing is too shaky now.
Your vote wouldn't be counted. And plenty of Republicans vote by mail. So I guess my question would be:
Would you want your vote to not count to ensure someone elses vote might not count?
Last thing. Just a reminder. The numbers are bad. Trump is trying anything to improve his odds. "Hur dur he's not on the ballot". Sure, but I imagine people will be voting like he is.

the administration would ultimately win the case because the Postal Service has “broad authority to regulate the mail.”
So, it will be in effect for 2028.
That’s good.

I'm not sure what this will actually accomplish, though. States will provide the list of eligible voters to the USPS. States still determine who gets to vote.

I read, you should try it.

Its not illegals and non citizens voting, the dems are correct when they say that is rare.
Here is how it works. The DMV in Cali lets illegals get licenses but they check the box they are not citizens. Someone flips the switch and all illegals are now eligible to vote. Those ballots are batched and "mailed in or dumped in drop boxes" voila you have your winner.
Illegals wouldnt know cause they know they cant vote anyway so there would be no one saying "someone voted for me".
The same people stuffing the ballots also have access to the person's signature at the DMV, now aint that convenient.

Trump administration lawyers had urged the justices to step in and clear the way for its plan to use the Postal Service to screen ballot envelopes after they are submitted by state elections officials. The new rules would require states to submit lists of voters approved to receive mail ballots. The Postal Service would then deliver mail ballots only to the voters on the lists.
It is not the Post Offfices Job to do this. Board of Elections has to get it right, the post office is not some Board of Elections "overseer".

It's a Reuters article actually, and if you bothered to read it you would know that Blumenthal was understanding as that to be the case per the whistleblower's explanation of the policy. But the rest of my post stands on reason. Trump and the GOP are on a sinking ship.

Hey, listen, you.
For years I was only able to yell at and cuss at my TV screen. Now that we have the Wonderful Internets, I am able to yell and cuss at actual people on the internet who can read my rants.
This is a big step forward for civilization, Toots.

I wouldn't go that far, unless we take "civil" out of "civilization."

SCOTUS took forever to rule on this and ruled there is no time to implement it.
