Corporatism at its finest, and it's only getting worse as the oligarchy continues to chip away at the few benefits the American worker actually does have. Shameful.
Christ is this ever misinformed. The government does not mandate these things. So while your precious big government is busy letting you down, those corporations you so despise have been helpful enough to offer things like maternity leave and paid sick leave. I am sorry you have not yet progressed to the point in your life where your skills would demand such an offer from a company of your choosing.
Sincerely,
Go frick yourself.

I had paid sick leave before I retired. My wife currently has paid sick leave.

ben, you should get a job with paid sick leave. Most people working in the corporate offices of reputable companies have this benefit. You may need to re-evaluate your career choices if you lack this benefit.

You mean government forced sick leave.
I have it. Good companies do.
Shitty ones don't.
Have enough skill to not work for a shitty one.

We, including the poor, have it better here than any other country. We, including the poor, have it better in this country now than any of previous generations.

You need to find a better place to work.
I give my employees 4 weeks of vacation and a week worth of sick days each year. I also give them 11 paid holidays each year.

I'm guessing the OP meant "government-provided" or "government-mandated" sick leave.
And the 4 pages of
talking about how we are all great and people who don't have sick leave should just find a new job... got it.
But here is the thing. There ARE a lot of people in this country who work jobs where, if you don't show up, you don't get paid. And it's not just the low-skills either. Anyone who is self-employed probably fits in this statement as well. If a one-man a/c repairman shop, the guy can't go to work today, he's not getting paid either.
That having been said, if someone is afraid to go to the doc because they don't want to miss a day of work, and it turns out they have Ebola and infect everyone else around them (including all of you that have sick days) then we are all going to be screwed.
I don't think that's a problem with Ebola, in that it's not an airborne disease, and you generally have to come in contact with body fluids to get it. But... if god forbid something like SARS hit here, we could be in for a big issue.

Nice attack there, ok... point still being... if sick people go to work, we all suffer.

To ME poverty is a mindset, either you accept being in poverty or you don't and you get out. Poverty is all about choices, some are not in the individuals control sometimes like parents making poor decisions and the children suffering for it. But there is always a way out, if you are willing to look and sacrifice. Unfortunately today its easier to sit idle instead of sacrificing.

There's a tradeoff with every decision. If someone goes to work for themselves that's part of the tradeoff they get for being their own boss and setting their own hours. IIRC, Russian is self-employed and I think SFP may be as well. I don't see them here bitching about not having paid sick days mandated to them by the All-Seeing Mommy State.

US gives out more foreign aid than anyone else.
Maybe we just can't afford it?
