No. Once worked at a plant with union employees and they were a bunch of lazy crybabies. Unions promote laziness and inefficiency in the workplace.

Unions have no justification for existing today. Originally, the worker was faced with:
'Take this job at our wage or starve to death.'
Today it's:
'Take this job at our wage or go on welfare, food stamps, SSI, etc.'

No, and I work for one. Luckily they only take 1/2 hour pay every 2 weeks.

Geez, you sound just like my grandfather who died 25 years ago.

He worked for nearly 40 years for Standard Oil and would have gladly paid 95% of his income in taxes to Democrats rather than ever vote for a Republican. All because "The Democrats are for the working man".

With a lot of issues this isn't true, but the pendulum nature of our political system where we swing back and forth between more liberal and more conservative has really benefitted the worker over time. No side has it 100% right.

Public unions should be illegal. But unions are free associations of likeminded individuals. Unions advocating for progressivism are the enemy of freedom. They should be mocked. Unions advocating for worker’s rights is great.

Perfectly stated…..

Why do people need unions?

If you want better wages
better conditions

you have to options;
1. Go find them yourself
2. Increase your qualifications so you can actually improve YOURSELF not a bunch of sleazy boys from Philly

Why do businesses keep hiring them?

Trade unions, specifically in something like the electrical field, are an example of how things should be IMO. Small businesses and individuals still have plenty of work, larger businesses have the peace of mind of hiring union workers with set standards of work and training.

I'm not pro union. But I have benefited from unions. The better they do, they better it's been for non union workers.

I've been working in and around heavy industrial and petrochem industries for decades.

Most of the unionized hourly people the past 10-15 years are no longer liberals.

Only the shills running the unions are and a few of the hourly derelicts who get hired and can never be fired.

Some unions or similar bodies are pro-GOP, mainly the rank-and-file of your police and firefighter unions.

In fact in a lot of trade unions this may actually be the case: the rank-and-file is conservative while leadership is liberal. (This wouldn't apply to teachers, government employees, and of that ilk.)

This^^^^ is probably true in a lot more unions than most people realize….the conservative rank and file just don’t talk about it. I know the company I work for has hundreds of people in the KC area in the union and I would be surprised if more than 20-30 show up for the monthly union meeting because there’s too much Dim political BS.

While I don’t like unions, I don’t have a major problems with private sector workers forming unions.

I do have a huge problem with unionization of federal and state workers.

Because I believe in freedom of association, I'm not for outlawing unions, except

public sector unions because the people who are paying the bills are not at the negotiating table (i.e. taxpayers)

Even those you mention are iffy. As some other poster noted, these unions protect inferior and less productive craftsmen. The work on the 2 new nuclear reactors outside Augusta is a prime example.

The best of the pipe fitters the Augusta union puts out take their book and travel. They chase bigger money.
