It’s Antarctica. Not Baton Rouge. WiFi if any down there is probably crap.
Maybe they didn’t have a chance to email, maybe they wanted to send a voice message. They could have went on the radio hoping to raise a nearby ship of maybe some in Chile or Argentina or the Falklands with what they knew was going on in Antarctica
