Tuberville residency discussion

For the Alabama folks regarding their presumptive next Governor -
Is there any chance that Tuberville finds himself in a little hot water over this residency issue?
First off, based on reality, travel records to/from DC, and public comments he made about living in Florida, it seems very much likely that he actually hasn't lived in Alabama, but likely moved there sometime in the last couple years as he geared up for this run. The requirements to represent the state as a senator are very different from those to serve as governor.
Then there is a voting technicality where he claims he was a resident of Alabama in 2018, but voted in Florida after that....Its all a mess, and doesn't reflect well that someone thinks they are above the law - or at least the spirit of the law.

Why should it be? It isn't for any other DC politician.

When did Hillary ever live in New York before being elected senator?
Maxine Waters has never lived in her district.
It's all good.

There are many Alabama residents who have houses at the beach and spend a lot of time there. During the relevant period Tubs didn’t claim a homestead exemption on his expensive FL property, which cost him a lot in property taxes. His homestead exemption was on his Alabama home. It isn’t hard to establish domicile. For a guy working in DC where you spend time doesn’t mean much.

Not sure of the details in this specific case, but many or most senators live in DC. Never seems to be an issue. And many governors are former senators.

I have no idea where his primary residence is . For the longest time after leaving Auburn he maintained a home, I believe at Lake Martin, because his sons were still in school - first at Lee Scott Academy and then at Auburn.
I believe he still owns the house

When he was elected to the Senate, it’s pretty well known that he lived on 30A in Florida. I’ve always found this intriguing and wondered when it would come up.

Even if it’s improper and messy the republicans here aren’t going to hold him accountable for pretty much anything. So it’s a moot point. He knows the rules don’t apply to him.

No. This has already been decided. He's been a resident of AL for more time than required... and Democrats are funding Republican candidates legal challenges.
Standard fare for them. I love seeing the worm wiggle on the hook.

He sold that lake martin house many years ago. His son (and wife) owned a house in Auburn that he added his name to the deed to a couple years ago. He had a florida driver's license until 2023.
I agree that the Alabama GOP will dismiss all of this...but it seems very apparent that he absolutely did not live in Alabama.
Just another way that the rules only apply to common folks.

And yet you commie dopes insist on responding to every perceived injustice with yet more rules. What a paradox you must wake up to every morning.

So all this and you don’t give the requirements to be governor of Alabama that you are insinuating he will not meet.
Thanks OP

He doesnt live in Alabama. But voters in Alabama dont give a shite and the state GOP cant come up with a single real candidate to oppose him.
Alabama GOP is as bad as the democratic party about having insiders pick the "candidates".

The constitution does not require a representative to live in the district he represents; only that he be a citizen of the state from which he was elected.

From what I understand, he's lived in Bama for the last two years.

Requirement is residency for 7 continuous years preceeding candidate qualification.
He has said previously that his years in the early 2000's count. They dont.
He said on TV that he retired and moved to Florida (before he backtracked and decided to become a politician).
He held a FL license up until 2023.
He voted in FL in 2018 (this one doesn't really disqualify other than him committing a federal offense by voting in a state after he already claimed to live in another)
He added his name to the deed of his son's house in 2024 and started claiming homestead there.
The only point I make is that the democrats don't have a monopoly on the whole "rules for thee" thing and I'm sick of all of them.

This is the 100% correct answer.

Another correct answer.

And finally, three correct answers in a row.
If anybody in MAGA was really concerned about elitist Ruling Class dirtbags who profit from insider trading doing things that would get you or I sent to prison, they would be completely against Tuberville.
But Trump endorses him, so...
