Sports teams and leagues would do much better to stay out of political arena and the “culture wars” and just focus on providing entertainment to people (of all stripes) who like to follow that team or that sport.
If someone isn’t going to watch your games or support your team because you don’t make it a point to emphasize or celebrate their “special interest”, then that individual probably really isn’t a fan in the first place.

Is it possible that, although not forced, maybe they were strongly encouraged? When the uniforms were placed in their locker, were both hats available? Maybe they only had the option of the pride cap, and the 1 player had a regular hat in his bag. I don't know what's standard practice for players to do with their hats between games.

Maybe. It’s a fair question.
The problem is that we’re moving from known facts to assumptions.
We know a player wore a standard cap and played. We don’t know what conversations happened behind closed doors. So I’m comfortable saying “possibly encouraged,” but not “forced” based on the evidence.
