A salary of $60K puts you in the top 1% of earners in the entire world. That could be considered rich by your interpretations of scripture. Why haven't you given it all away along with your savings and retirement accounts?

FYI, a one million net worth puts you in the top 1% of global wealth. Knowing that, you need to liquidate your assets and give it all away or you are going to hell!!!!!!!

He quite plainly says rich people can't get into heaven and that the government should be given whatever it asks for in taxes.

The most smooth brained "quoting" of the bible. He doesn't plainly say those things, he says it poetically, as was often his style.

Matthew 19:24

quote:

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

In one sentence Jesus conveys that:

-His direct audience should not envy the rich

-It was commonly believed at the time among Jews that deformities and calamities were evidence of sin and riches were evidence of righteousness.

-Entrance into God's Kingdom is not bought with earthly wealth

But let's look at the whole lesson in context to show what an absurd statement you are making

quote:

23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”

28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [h]or wife or children or [i]lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

He said that to one man who specifically was hung up on his material possessions. He didn't say that to a crowd as part of a general teaching, and He didn't say it to anyone else.

Seems like this is harder for you than you thought.

The point in that account was that everyone must be willing to give up whatever it is that causes them to not follow Christ, whether that be a commitment to an LGBTQ identity or a stock portfolio or his own ego.

I'm so not surprised.

Exactly. Someone needs to ship her and her ilk away. He should have surrounded himself with actual men who know the Bible. Not these money whores

Jesus was calling out the idol in the young man's life, not making an absolute command for every Godly person to follow. There were plenty of folks from the bible that were wealthy and also were considered faithful to God. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Job, David, Solomon, Boaz, Joseph, Jehoshaphat & Hezekiah to name a few.

First off, Jesus transcends politics and it's a fool's errand to try to make him fit into a single political category. I noticed, however, that you convieniently left out the part of Jesus that also would call out those same people and call them to sin no more. Y'all make it out that Jesus was this softy that never stood on principle and frankly, if Jesus were here today and told people the truth about themselves, they'd hate and despise him and call him a bigot and a homophobe. Have you even tried to look at youtube videos of people preaching the gospel to the LGBTQ community recently? They absolutely HATE Jesus.

Tell me don't regularly attend Church, without telling me you don't regularly attend Church.

That is not what Jesus meant. HE was addressing that one wealthy individual to bring about a point. Not that anyone with wealth had to give it away. It was a pure illustration addressing idolatry of one's wealth. While we must die to our self, that doesn't mean we must give everything away and become monks.

If you remember Zacchaeus did not give away all of his wealth. Their is nothing wrong with being wealthy. Having it become an idol is.

Also, Nicodemus the Pharisee came to Jesus at night. In privacy. Jesus never mentioned his wealth either. He simply let him know what it took to gain Salvation.

I'm just curious about who the downvoting idiots are who agree with this are:

quote:

Anyone who has actually read the Gospel and thinks Jesus would be a Republican today is only fooling themselves. He constantly shits on rich people and money. He quite plainly says rich people can't get into heaven and that the government should be given whatever it asks for in taxes. Also advises to literally let your enemy attack you again before you defend yourself.

He also ran around with the downtrodden and despised of his society. Dude would absolutely be hanging out with transgenders and immigrants if he were around today and would tell most of the GOP they're going to hell if they don't wake up. They of course would call him a woke Marxist.

“ He’s depicting himself as Christ. God in the flesh. Doing what no man could ever do.”(quote mnl).

That image doesn’t project any claim to be Jesus Christ for me. More like an anointed Leader. But I do realize that it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

Whatever. It’s coming out in the wash.

False. Many thousands of people have been reported to heal with their hands throughout history.

I am glad to still be on the opposite end of the spectrum from the internet's all time downvote leader. It confirms to me I am in the right on this.

I saw a TikTok the other day that sums up a lot of the debate about "which party Jesus would belong to." To paraphrase, it said if you look to the New Testament for conservative policies you will find them, and if you look to it for progressive policies you will find them. The Bible isn't a political manifesto, it is a religious text to transmit the word of God to humans and help them live a faithful life.
