This is a bad idea. Argentina is practically an unregulated market and we would run a deficit against them in trade.

BFD… we run a deficit with everyone. We are rich… we buy a lot of shite. I’d rather run one with Milei than Macron!

Let's just take tariffs. How can you argue a preference for using tariffs is "free trade"? Seems like economic intervention and regulation to me, a person who likes free trade.

Your dumbass is, once again, is on the same side as the board’s retarded leftist. Shocking!! Here yall are talking about how Trump isn’t for “free trade” in a thread about Trump potentially signing a “free trade” agreement. You are a left wing retarded groomer

No. Leftists don't want free trade, either. Trump's economic leftism has always been a problem to me. People call it "TDS" like idiots, but then you see threads like this where the delusion is on display and they pretend like they want free trade like Trump.

Then you have scholars like you who don't understand anything being discussed and just throw out random "out group" labels, thinking it sticks (it does not).

And you finish it off with a glorious 73-IQ melt.

Feel free to answer the question.

I’m confused.

OP tweet says Trump is considering a free trade agreement with Argentina then we get these replies that Trump is against free trade.

Again for the billionth time, Trump is about reciprocity. When he says he’s considering it, it means he probably waiting to see what Argentina will do.

They are a good source of beef products though.

Will obviously go down as well as the Trump-led USMCA.

The infrastructure we need is railway connecting US to Argentina and US to Russia. Rail is cheapest way to transport material. Building the railway creates thousands of jobs and something that pays for itself over time vs trying to influence an individual country’s government

Does "free trade" simply mean open access to goods and services between two countries (or a group of countries) or can it also include unilaterally opening a market to access while not requiring any sort of reciprocity?

Not a rhetorical question. Many people think the latter is free trade - and I just do not understand that.

No it's pretty evident.

There's the ignorance. Trump has maintained this position. If you want free trade, remove your barriers. We will remove ours. Thus free trade. If you don't then you will not be allowed to take advantage of the USA purchasing power.

This isn't hard.

The "free" denotes the government involvement, implying less to none.

Think EU or original NAFTA. The red tape is cut for the members within the group to make trade more "free" (ie, fewer government -based externalities).

Now, in the age of Trumpism (the combination of "America First" and populism), regulation and intervention is seen as a positive policy to make trade less free, to try to normalize the natural economic and monetary/currency differences in countries (see post above yours that I replied to).

That's the opposite of free trade. Think equality vs. equity. This is an attempt to create equity.

There are a few more honest people, who simply argue that since we are the most powerful country we make the rules to our benefit. This is certainly a potentially beneficial philosophy but only in the short term, as economic conditions are not static over time.

I’m not going to answer your stupid little question because I don’t respect you and you’re not a serious poster. You are here just to argue a point, any point.

That being said, I will now demonstrate to you how an honest poster, who disagrees with Trump on tariffs, should respond to this particular thread about Trump entering a free trade agreement with Argentina.

Take notes, groomer

I am 100% against Trump using tariffs so this free trade agreement with Argentina is a positive step towards the type of trade deals I support. This free trade agreement should show other countries that a free trade agreement is attainable if tariffs are removed on both sides. I hope this is the first of many more free trade agreements with willing partners. Thank you President Trump and Melini for showing that a free trade agreement is still possible

See, that wasn’t so hard. I hope you learned something, now class is dismissed

They are not called tariffs!

Trump has renamed them free trade charges!

Why can’t you see that?
