re: Trump tax return decisions coming shortly SCOTUS 7-2, 7-2

Trump should not be mad about either of these decisions.
Both will be tied up well past the election, taking those issues (and the ability to leak/misuse the information off the table).
Vance still allows for objections as to the merit/scope/need for the records - which would only go to a grand jury and there are significant rules on the secrecy there.
Mazers actually does recognize a "heightened" standard for congressional subpoenas on non-official documents of the Executive under separation of powers, one that Trump will likely prevail on in the end.

I don’t get you guys. I’m conservative - and agree with this decision. As our President, he is not above the rest of us. Period. Regardless of party, religion, etc.
This is how government works.
And . . . IF the President did something wrong here financially, he should pay for it - maybe at the expense of his presidency.
No one is above the law.

The sycophant squad will now chorus that his attorneys ARE incompetent for losing this case. Nonsense. They never had a chance. The challenge was not about "winning," it was about "delay." SOMETIMES, a delay IS a win.
Can't Trump mark them Confidential or Proprietary to preclude theiree release to the public?
But the potential long-term problem is "leaks."

From everybody's tone, it is as though you believe there is something earth shattering in the man's tax returns. Other than the fact he refused to release them, any basis for believing there is something damning there?
I doubt his tax return says: $1 million dollar kickback to Putin and $500k hush payments to mistresses. What is the big concern?

That is true. Trump will be long re-elected and out of office before this is a final decision. Now, the next guy to hold the office? He won't be so lucky and I know there is an enterprising DA on each side of the aisle already mapping out how to make a name for themselves.

Good thing we haven’t had any issues with this recently.

Trump wins because they won't get any documents any time soon.
This reality will not stop Democrats from running around claiming that the court ordered Trump to release his tax returns and he should do so immediately.
Of course any delay means he thinks he is above the law and a dictator who ignores the Supreme Court.

Everyone knows there is something damning in the returns. Prosecutors in NY CAN and WILL see his returns. It’s over. His fraud will come to light. His returns will leak like every other massive bombshell to leak from his sinking ship.

So technically neither a win nor loss but it is good for Trump as it prevents Democrats from releasing and using his tax returns against him prior to the election.

Both of these decisions are pretty narrow and the guidelines they gave ensure that this will be tied up way past November, probably for years, so in that sense it's a wash or a win for Trump.
The most damaging case this term was Gorsuch and Roberts agreeing that transexual employees are covered by discrimination based on sex.
Disappointing to see so many second amendment cases punted on, but if Trump wins in November that'll be a blessing as we can get 2-3 more conservatives on the court and finally expand and preserve our second amendment rights.

These pronouncements are psychological justifications for future witch hunts. Create an aura of invincibility for Biden, then when he doesn't win, something nefarious must have happened to prevent what seemed inevitable.

Their website is calling it a win for Trump.
Fox is saying that it's a blow to the president.
confused.
